4K GSK install complete
4K GSK install complete
I got r done today! WOW what a difference. Way to much fun I feel a little more low end in it and the top end seems endless. I would recommend this anyday over the 3K. I found some really easy ways (with some help) to do the valve spring swap, plus the valve adjustment and govenor work.
So if anyone is thinking about doing this bomb let me know.
I'll help ya out...

I'm thinking about the 4k kit. What are the draw backs? How is that for the engine turning 4k? I haven't read into it too much. How did you do the valve springs, by pressurizing the cylinder? I don't work on small engines much, I'm a heavy duty truck technician so any info would be greatly appreciated.
read here.. Hopefully the link will work..

the drawbacks for some people are...a loss of low end depending on the plate ..a soft pedal...jumpy throttle/rpms...and misses above 2500rpms
but all that can be fixed with some adjustments..especially a timing advance

Do you think this would work well for the truck in my signature? Right now it has a four K kit with out the inner springs to make it a 3K kit. The 60 Lb. springs came with it. We've bin thinking about it but havn't done it yet for the reasons Mr.T stated. Where do you find hardened retainers and keepers?
His truck, like mine, is a 95 and doesnt see the RPMs that you will with the larger pumps. I did the 4K kit also and 3400RPM is about all that I can pull from my motor. Although I am sure the 10 plate is cutting fuel pretty good by then. The smaller pumps respond about the same as a 3K kit on the bigger pumps.
Personnaly I would try the 4K springs and see how it goes. It shouldnt take you to long to try it and it can always be pulled back out if you dont like it. Dont forget to add the bigger valve springs.

Thanks for the help. Would it be any better than the 3K on my truck? The transmission shifts at around 3100RPM tops. So the extra RPM's wouldn't do anything would it? Are there any bad long term effects of running the kit?

HotMopr: You still have the 160 pump right? How many rpm's can you get out of it now before it quits pulling? 3k is all I can get out of mine with the 3k kit, and it starts to sound like it has a miss at around 2600rpm's. The little pumps just dont like many RPM's from what I have seen. At least not near like the 215's/180's. I think my lift pump may be a little weak, but I havent checked the pressure yet. Had I thought about it; I would have done a 4k probably instead of the 3k, but I will probably be better with me driving it to just keep the 3k in it; because they sure sound awesome at 4k rpm's
This really has noithing to do with the 3k GSK; but do you guys think I will gain a little top end,a nd maybe lose the miss at high rpm's by switching ot 215 injectors, and 181 DV's? Those are more than likley the planned mods next after I get a VB in. Thanks for any help/info!

Haisley machine carries the keepers and retainers
just under 400 for the whole set. Its pretty high priority in my BOMB track... I run the 4K without any serious issues, just watch the tach when it gets to about 3200 or so and back off (which is rather quick) my truck will free rev easily to 4000 rpms, and once i played with fire and shifted it at 3800 rpms into overdrive, MAN WHAT A RUSH!! but i wont do it again anytime soon... It pulls hard with that 100 plate. needs to be timed tho....
