4k gov. springs ????

Anyone got the 4k springs on a 160 pump if so how smooth does it run and what rpm can you turn. Do I really need to change the valve springs? Any other running issuses? Thanks in advance

Well there are a few people who haven't changed the springs and run 4k springs, but it is fairly risky at about 3400rpms. After you make it past this point your risk goes back down. To me the net loss is very high versus net gain is very low, why not just get the 60# springs and not have to worry about it? If you keep it under the 3400 then there isn't much risk, then I could see not bothering with the springs. Only issue is if I recall correctly these high rpm springs make the throttle real edgy at lower Rs, which could make winter driving more interesting.

How do you keep the valves from dropping when you take off the keepers when you change the springs I have done it with air pressure on gas engines but not sure how to do it on a diesel.

4k GSK in my 215 pump for over 50k miles. over 225k miles on my stock valve springs.

motor has seen 3400rpm daily... seen 3600+ more than a few times.

YMMV

Can't imagine you needing to run your truck that hard when torque peak happened two thousand RPM ago. Put the 3000 kit in mine and I'm able rev it more than I ever need to.

Do these kits allow it to wrap like a gasser? How do they affect the lower end? More/less smoke? Did they affect your mpg?

the 3 gsk are very smooth winter driving is not a problem. No they do not affect your mileage but your right foot will after you put them in .

with a 4k GSK. the 160 pump will turn about 3100 RPMS before it will start to defuel because of timing. thats with my timing set at 19*. now if you want more then you will have to time your engine to 25 or so to hit 4K. so if you don't plan on a o-ringed head to hold the boost presures of that timing level then stay with a 3k kit. My truck will flat rev to 4200 RPMs right now but after3100-3400 it will start to sputter a little bit and you can tell its loseing power.

"need" is a funny word...

see... I "need" to be able to leave Powerstrokes, Duramaxes, and rice boys in the rear view...

torque pulls trailers, horsepower wins drag races.

Hey boughtadiesel. How are them mods working out for you. Did they hinder your gas mileage very much compared to stock, and what about the power, was it greatly increased?

different injectors can effect MPG due to spray pattern, but stock 215's won't hurt... a plate and GSK and AFC mods won't effect squat if you control the right foot!
