4 or 5 inch exhaust, difference?

I hear alot of guys on here talking about 4 inch exhaust... I have an 02 ctd quad cab 4wd and I believe the stock exhaust is a 3 inch, is that right?

Is there a issue with a 5 inch exhaust? My dad got one for his ford and got a real good deal so he got me one for x-mas... a 5inch set, has a 4 inch downpipe and a muffler... I havent put it on yet though...

Can anyone give me any feedback on this? What I can expect, etc...thanks!

I love the sound of my 5 inch (no muffler). 4 inch is enough flow for what most people want to to, but ya gotta remember your exhaust can only flow what your turbo can feed it...

I say throw the 5in. on it but leave the muffler in the scrap pile and run straight pipe. I think it just sounds mean good luck
