I know that the 5" will help egt's but isn't a 4" going to provide more performance with the bombs that are supplied. Ive heard that you only benefit in performance from the 5" when horses are more than 450-500. Is this not true Thanks

I have heard you might lose a little power if you are under 500rwhp.I am about to put a straight 5in. system on.Do I need it?No.Do I want it? I like really loud trucks so I think it should work. But really, the turbo outlet is 3in.(on stock turbo)with a 4 in downpipe, and then it goes to 5 so I don't see what it will hurt. And if you ever want to go really big you are already set up.Not like any one around here wants more than 300hp though.

4" for sure.

5" just does not look 'scale' on a pickup. And you wont ever make enough power to actually choke a 4" exhaust, trust me. If you want 5" for the "yes I have stacks, but I over did it and made them too big for my little pickup truck look", fine but dont expect it to help at ANY power level that a 5.9 CTD is capable of.

I used 4" SCH 10 Stainless, which actually measures about 4 3/8" OD which I think looks perfect on a 3/4 ton pickup. I also prefer the miter cut look too.

I'll put some pics in the photo gallery.

personally, I disagree with 600.... 5" looks just fine on these trucks.

see my gallery for pics of a 5" tucked in behind the rear tire.

Will the 5" hurt the performance of my truck the way it is now? Or will it only help egt's?

most say that 5" will rob you of some power in the low RPM range unless you reach some magical plateau of power output(450-500 hp seems to be a common thought).... I never had 4" and my truck isn't quite to 450 hp, so I wouldn't know.

I know plenty of guys with various power outputs(500+ to nearly stock) runnin' the "same" custom 5" that I have and don't have any complaints. Just as there are plenty of folks who run 4" with no complaints.

the power "robbing" if any at all is determined by the size of ur downpipe...4inch downpipe is awesome u might never ever have to change ur downpipe...after the pipe u can do whatever go 6 inch for all its worth! ...i say 4inch downer and then straight to 5 inch ...for performance u simply need more fuel and a turbo(or two) to keep up with it...the size of ur turbo..the size of the turbo housing and the size of the downpipe will be the biggest egt reducers IMO

Well,

I would imagine that if you are gonna run twins eventually, and what ive learned from gunracer1, a five inch is almost nessesary, a four inch is good and what i have now.. I dont have an opinion, i like both four and five inch, but if twins are in your future a good muffler and five inch should help. Im sure he might chime in later on with more info..

5" doesn't look too big on these trucks... I've got a little 2500 single cab, and it looks just fine back there. sounds killer too!

I would just go 5"... then when you get to the point that you put twins on it, you won't need to change the exhaust!
