Angry 315s on what wheels

I have a 98 2500 4x4 and was wanting to know what size wheels I would have to run for 315s.Would a 16x8 work or would the 16x10s work better. The reason I ask is because the wheels that I want do not come in a 16x10.Would 4 and 1/2 backspacing be enough to clear everything in the front with just leveling kit? My truck is an auto with 3:54s so how bad would it drop my RPMs at like 70?

16x10 is recommended, but 16x8 will work.

10 inch wheel you'll need a lift kit to get them to stop rubbing.

8 inch will work with just a 2 inch leveling spacer on the front.

4 1/2" BS is pretty standard in aftermarket wheels, yes it will work.

Disclaimer: Every truck handles bigger tires differently. You might have rub with 315's, you might not.

It's been linked to before, but here's a handy little calculator to compare two tire sizes: http://www.dakota-truck.net/TIRECALC/tirecalc.html

I'd recommend the 16x10. If you go with a 16x8 and "airdown", you run a bigger chance of the tire coming off of the rim (popping the bead). Plus the tires will "fit" the rim alot better.

So if I did 16x10s then I would have to do a lift? How bad did your 315s hurt your RPMs with 3:55s?

I think you have this a little backwords... The narrower rim will hold the bead at a lower PSI than the wider rim. The wider you go the more likely it is to pop a bead when you let psi out of your tires for offroading/better traction.

Just clarifying. -Tim

I run 315's on 16x8 wheels and they work perfectly. I do have a 4 in. lift but I have never rubbed any part of my truck before. I've got some pics of it in my pic. gallery if you want to check them out.

98 2500,
The gauges are from autometer and they are the z-series ones. I don't know why my truck would red lines at 3200 and yours would be at 3000. I got it from Canada, so I'm not sure why it would be any different.

You might, you might not.
Only way to know for sure is to try.

315's with 3.55 rear and auto tranny I'm turning about 1700-1800rpm at 70mph.

I agree with the airing down part. The narrower the rim, the less chance you will ahve with blowing a bead. I run the stock 02 aluminum rims and the only place I rub is on the i beam at full lock. I have a leveling kit on mine and it really helps. At 80mph, I run 2000rpms in sixth with 3.55's.
