30 or 60
Re:30 or 60
I don't know what yall are talking about having to look at the digitals longer. I can just glance and read all of my gauges real quickly. Quicker than I could with the analogs. Plus I know the exact number. As with analog, at a quick glance, you get an idea of what the numbers are. If I had to do it all over again, I would have skipped the analogs and gone straight to the digitals. Now I don't know how big the letters on that 3-in-1 gauge for the 03's are (the Bully Dog unit I think), but with a 2 1/16" digital gauge, the numbers are about a 1/2" or so tall. Maybe even 3/4". So they are very large and easy to read. Especially for old people eyes.

I think Stan pretty well hit it - under average circumstances, a quick glance at an analog display - or group of them - is lots more practical than the longer, more deliberate look it takes for a digital group - theres no question that digitals are more precise, and sensitive/responsive to smaller system changes...
BUT, it's much like my other guages that can be read at a glance - I don't usually really CARE if I'm traveling at ABOUT 65 MPH - or ACTUALLY 63.7 MPH - or whether my boost is near 30 PSI, or ACTUALLY 31.4 PSI - *I* just want an instant APPROXIMATION, and can easily get that on boost, EGT and fuel pressure all in an instant glance at my analog guages that only takes my eyes off the road momentarily.
Absolutely NOTHING wrong with digitals - had them on my '85 vette, and for my electronic test equipment they're the ONLY way to go for reading critical circuits - but where the added pillar guages are concerned, the readability and cost of the analogs just work better for me!
YMMV...

Once again..I'm with Gary. Analog is much easier to watch readings ramp up or down. When digitals are "moving" they are tough to read. Sure...for absolute measurements digital is better. Now give me a watch and I prefer digital. I can take a glance, read the time, then figure out what it rally means to me while my eyes are elsewhere.
For what it's worth....I have an '84 300zx turbo. Many of these came with digital dash. Many enthusiasts go to the effort to convert to analog. Also...I'm a machinist. An analog TravaDial is much easier to "pick-up" during movement and you can track it much easier and anticipate. My lathe has digital too and I use it for more discreet readings.
Hey Gary..where in CA???

"Hey Gary..where in CA???"
Vacaville - halfway between San Francisco and Sacramento on Hwy 80...
And one more comment on the guage thing - even on the digital setup on my '85 vette - GM still included, along with the digital readout, an analog-type bargraph for the "digitally challenged"... ;D ;D ;D
