3.55 gears
3.55 gears
looking at running a larger tire but i still have 3.55 gears. how big of a tire can i go to without damaging anything. i have a stock auto and an edge ez. looking at a 5" T.C. lift and 3" body.
I ran 35's with 3.55's, SJ 4.6" lift, and a 5 speed on my 99. No problems at all. After some engine mods the only problem I had was running out of road to play on!
Guy I used to work with ran a similar set-up to mine with 36's and had no issues.
Your auto will need some attention most likely.

I ran 33's and grossed 23,000 lbs a few times this summer. The stock auto was already on its way out, the converter just slipped really bad. With the goerend tranny in there zero problems. These trucks are pretty stout so the stock auto is going to be your weak link if you go 35's or over. Sometimes you can get lucky and find someone in the classifieds who wants to trade 4.10s for 3.54s. Good Luck

I have 3.55 gears on mine. Just installed 4.5 inch lift and 315s and 10x16 inch wheels. The only big difference I notice is the shift points in my tranny. I have an appointment at the dodge dealer in the morning to recalibrate the speedometer. I hope to see a big difference.
Ive got 37's on mine with 3.55 gears, absolutely decimated the tranny, they put a new one in under warranty and 1,500 miles later I can already feel the vibration in the TC. I now have 4:56 gears and air lockers sitting in my garage that I'll be putting on next week.
I runnin 35' with 3.55 nothing damaged or broken. I'm going to swap out the gears eventually. I think'in 3.73 would be fine for an all around gear, towing/commuting. I think 4.10, my fuel mileage would suffer.
