What I would do first, that would be the simplest, would be to slide that fuel plate al the way. Even though I don't have a 12v, I did that to buddy of mines truck and that alone made it run quite a bit better.

He may be able to outrun you, but I bet he ain't getting the fuel mileage you are.

Lastly, I've only had this truck for a few months, but it looks like the PO maintained it really well. should I adjust valve lash for good measure while I am @ it?

Thanks everybody for the responses, I appreciate them all!
Yeah, TST makes a #10 plate but you can grind your own from the stock plate or buy them from other places that might have them. It's all the same plate profile. Same goes for the gsk. It doesn't really matter where you get it. This combo goes really well together especially for an auto. Just do those two first, then a torque converter and valvebody.

97 D Tec the truck will normally rev just fine. I know I've had it up to 2500, but that's probably about it. I think the 2100 rpm limit was a function of the steep grades & high speeds. If it had jumped out of OD & back into 3rd, it would have tached up pretty high, per the calculator 3050 RPM.

o ok cause i was bout to say there is a much bigger problem then just lack of power. and i dont know why people are telling you that a fuel plate and a gsk kit will make up for the 300+hp that new diesels have but it really wont. you have to realize that you have a transmission thats junk, and a really restrictive exhaust that will send your egts thru the roof lets not mention a turbo that doesnt like a lot of boost.

Here is a good list for you:

1. Find a local diesel chapter and see if they can help in exchange for some bubbly pop or food.
2. Check out your fuel system (including fuel pressure), filters, exhausts and such as already mentioned. A properly running stock truck shouldnt have a problem holding 80 even with the extra cargo.
3. Check your tire pressures an make sure they are all even and proper.

Now you can think about some mods as some good suggestions have already been given.
