2001.5 wire tap

Anyone with a 2001.5 HO or later VP44 have an immediate
failure (within 30-60 mins ) like the earlier pumps after tapping
the wire , or do the later pumps hold up better ? I'm ready to
install a Blue Chip APB box but don't want to make a $1500.00
mistake. I run Power Service in the tank, new lift pump 16 psi idle
11 psi WOT with fuel pressure gauge. What else can I do to insure
sucess on the wire tap box ?

I was in the same boat as you a few months ago. I finally let'em drop and I tapped the wire. Was one of the best moves I have done to my truck yet. I know plenty of people with our same trucks who have not had any problems with tapping the wire. Mines been tapped now for almost a year w/ zero probs. I'm not guaranteeing your pump won't die, but I think if your fp readings have always been that good, then you more than likely won't have a problem.

If your pump is gonna die, its gonna die very soon after the tap, probably less than 20 mins or after a good hard run on the go-pedal. Good luck.

Better put a big line fuel system in. I tapped mine, and it is fine right now.

I'm in the same situation like DieselCamper. Originally started out with EZ and 275's then upgraded to jammer II's and Mad ECM and added a Goerend T/C. Ended up toasting my 3 gear clutches in my auto. So I rebuilt the trans and dumped the MAD after finding a great deal on a drag comp. My t/c is too tight for the fueling of the MAD, plus it barked the turbo every time it shifted when on the go pedal. Had upgraded the turbo from an HY to a pdr HX35 hybrid. I didn't like the towing with the Mad Ecm and the trans I have. I love the way the truck drives with the Comp, Jammer II's and the HX35. I also have a 4" exhaust and MegaCannon AFE intake. I'm just sweating tapping the wire because of all the $ I've spent lately. So I guess my question is the same as DieselCamper's. Don't know what I'm thinking, I've already put the big dollar item behind me, time to tap the wire. I've had a Blue Chip pump cover for about a month now, don't know what I've been worried about.

Time to tap the wire, later guys, I'm burning daylight.

Tappingly,

Casey

Just tape the wire. If the VP is going to die it's going to die. When you tape the wire it may die a little sooner, but it was going to die any how. I believe the early VP's 98.5-99 were the problematic ones. Just do it already.

No problems since last November, just watch yer FP gauge and be ready for a fuel plumbing improvement. Mine went to 7psi WOT on 5x5 w/new and only lift pump down on the frame rail in front of the fuel tank.

My truck is an 01 that was tapped by both myself and the previous owner. I'm on the original LP and VP, and the truck has 125k on it now.

I was real hesitant to do it, until I dove in and found the tap already on the wire! Best move since. Go for it!
