2001 24v. air dog,vp44 & tuners.
Ok. its obvious that the vp44 sucks and I am not the only one to ask about this issue. I have 133k miles on my truck and it is still doing great. Is it just a matter of time before it goes out? How long do they usually last etc..I want to eventually add a tuner to the truck (edge ez) for fuel and towing purposes. But that is the only I plan to add. It has a straight pipe on it and an intake now.
1) Which air dog is the best application for these type of mods?
2) Is it worth it to go ahead and buy the air dog 100-165 and use it for the already old vp44?
3) If I leave the truck stock is thier a good chance I will never have to replace the vp44?
4) Is it just because of the power being added to these trucks through certain performance mods that these vp44's go bad?
Everyone says to go ahead and buy these things I am just trying to get all my facts right before I just go out there and buy something for a truck that is running great.

Also, if any of you have some pictures of a 2nd gen with black factory wheels with chrome center caps that would be appreciated.
I would put in a set of guages. Pyro, boost, fuel. If nothing else you should have a fuel pressure gauge. The LP'S on our trucks suck!!
I have 71000 miles on my truck, most all towing and I haven't had any VP-44 problems, but I've been through 4 LP'S. I've monitored my fuel pressure and replaced the Lift pump before it failed. I just installed an AirDog 150 and now I have a solid 15lbs pressure. My neighbor has an 01 and his VP-44 failed at 188,000 miles, ( no Mods ). I have two friends who have 02's and they both have gone through two vp-44's in less than 60,000 miles. Sometimes I think it is the luck of the draw.
1. Start saving, your VP-44 will go out
2. Gauges... A must
3. Chip... you bet
4. Injectors, not far behind
5. new fuel system.... A must. The stock stuff is junk
6. The list just keeps on growing
But I still love my truck....

I'd just get the AD100 it's good for 500+ hp and its easier to instal as it plugs directly into the top of your fuel tank. (unless you have an intank LP now) I ran an EZ for a lot of miles and I dont think (in my case) it will cause any undo stress on anything.
The VP's go for a number of reasons, not sure if adding an EZ is going to shorten its life, my orginal vp had been fuel starved for I dont know how long, it was still going strong when I removed it. I replaced it because I was unsure of its condition, at the time of replacement I had over 200,000miles on it.
If I had to do it again, I would have left the VP in there until it died.
I see no issues with running an AD with your old VP.

I would not hesitate to put in the AD100 and be done with the lp problems. Airdog now makes a canister for the intank pump guys (of course it came out immediately after I modded mine). Either way, get a fuel pressure gauge and watch it. The vp44 dies from being starved.
do you guys agree that the edge juice with attitude modle is a good purchase because it all of the things a guage would? or is it still worth getting a mechanical fuel pressure guage?

If you have enough flow to maintain 10psi at the VP inlet, you have plenty of fuel delivery.
I'd recommend you consider a filtration upgrade. That, more than additional fuel pressure is more likely to help VP longevity.
