16x8 or 16x10 wheels for 315/75/16s

I posted this in the No-Drivetrain forum and haven't had a response. I am hoping to decide which size to purchase as I found a smokin' good deal on some new wheels.

I am planning to upgrade to some 315/75/16s soon and was wondering which wheel width is best. Also, what backspacing would you recommend?

I am running the D25 coils and plan to swap out all my control arms with DT 1/2" extended arms to improve clearance.

I went with a SJ 4.5" Class II lift that uses the d25 coils, 16.5" X 9.75" Weld Dakars with 4.5" backspace, 35" X 12.5" SSR's, and the SJ dual steering stabilizer.

I get moderate rubbing in a hard right hand turn. Other than that, all is well!

Also, I had 4 Wheel Parts in Indy do the intsall. Nothing but good comments about thier work!

i have the tuff country 5" lift and 315's on 16x10 rims and have never rubbed at all. its been moderatly articulated while turning and still no rubbin

You will be fine with the tens. Just make sure you get at least 4.5" of backspace.

I will relate to you my experience and you can make your own decision. I put 305/70's on my truck with 16 x 10's, 4.5" backspacing. I have no lift at all. I had to have the leveling kit installed to clear the fenders when turning with those 10" rims. I have seen a 2000 Ram with the stock aluminum wheels, I believe they are 16x7.5", same size and brand of tire. He has no clearance problems without the leveling kit installed. I wish I had gotten 8" wide wheels so I wouldn't need the leveling kit.

Thanks for all the comments.

I bought the 16 x 10s with 4.5" backspacing. I looked at 16 x 8s, then talked to several tire shops and BFG themsleves - not to mentin the great people here at DTR. Most all recommended 10" wheels.

8" rims are the absolute minimum width allowed for 315/75/16s. The specs for those tires show the typical cross section width as 12.5". If you mount them on 8.5" wheels, however, they will only have a cross section width of 12.1". That's how much they get pulled in even on 8.5" wheels. That was enough to convince me that 10" wheels were the way to go.

I already have the 2.5" Skyjacker front coils installed. I added the DT Track Bar to pull the axle back to center. I will add the DT control arms if needed to clear the fenders on the rear of the tire.

I decided I would rather have the best wheel size for the tire, and do what it takes to make them fit under the truck properly. Just my $.02.

By the way. They get installed at 10:00 tomorrow morning.

I think I am going to go with 16x8's when I get my 315's because I've had a lot of hub troubles in the past year & 1/2 and they are acting up again so I want to get rid of my 10's.

Dodgeman01 runs 315 BFG AT's on 16x8's and they seem to be wearing quite well so that's the route I'm going to go.
