12 OR 24 AGAIN

I HAVE NOT DECIDED IF I SHOULD GET A 12 OR 24 VALVE.I HAVE 2 FIRST GEN. TRUCKS AND 2 24 VALVE TRUCKS. I DID WANT A P PUMP 12 VALVE BUT AFTER DRIVING THE 24 VALVE I'M NOT SURE .I 'M NOT CRAZY ABOUT THE WAY THE 24 VALVES AUTOMATICALY PULL UP R.P.M.S BUT I DO LIKE ALL THE NOISE THEY MAKE, WHEN I GET DONE WITH EITHER ONE I WANT IT TO HAVE 500+ HORSEPOWER WHICH ONE IS EASIER AND CHEEPER TO BOMB, I ALREADY HAVE THE " BUG " FROM MY FIRST GEN. I APPRECIATE ANY IMPUT.

12 Valves are cheaper to BOMB.

$200 Torque Plate
$400 injectors
$500-800 clutch (depending on brand)
______________
That will get you 400HP, for 500+ you'd have to get a bigger turbo, rework the P-Pump, Cam, TWINS ;D

Re:12 OR 24 AGAIN

That's an easy one. A P-pumped 24V is your best choice in my opinion. If you don't mind spending the extra 5K+/- to convert.

The best of both worlds... ;D

Re:12 OR 24 AGAIN

1rstGen,
I currently own a four ctd's, a '92, 93, '94 and '98.5 and love all of them. I used to think that 12 valves were the only way to go, but can tell you now that I prefer to drive the 24V. If you are satified with 350 - 375 (useable) horsepower the 12V is cheap to upgrade and does well. Over that a 12V need major work to keep egts down to recommended levels at high rpm or time intervals. The 24V engine flows air much better and doesn't require head porting, oringing, twin turbo until 500hp or so. I may try a conversion to the P7100 pump someday as I have most of the parts to do so. However, if you want major horsepower out of the P7100 it costs serious $'s in mod's and will smoke more on the street because it delivers lower fuel pressure and doesn't adjust timing as well as the VP44. I've been pushing the hp limits of my VP44 for sometime and I'm still on the original pump. I think that you will be happy with either a 12 or 24V but do your homework. I'd look for a '98 12V as the trucks were upgraded in '98 with nicer inside features, better steering and brakes and if you'd get a manual trans it'll have the 913 P pump. I think the 2001.5 disc brake equipped should be the best of the 24V trucks. I prefer the ETC engine over the ETH but like the 6speed better then the 5speed so...........JMHO, Larry
