0216 Nightmare!!!
I am in desprite need of help, this is posted in another section...
We put a new pump on today and to my suprise 0216 !!!!
And yes guys I've cleared the codes every time, as a matter of fact I used a friend's "Cummins Insite ISB monitor" while driving to see what is going on it seems like the code is burned into the ECU, cause we clear it every time and as soon as the truck starts without even moving it, it throws the code...
So lets tally up the score 2nd pump in one week third in 6 months!!!
Go BOSCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ant ideas other than the obvious would help, the plugs and harnesses are clean, the factory lift pump is by-passed as well as the stock fuel filter...
No loss in fuel pressure, as a matter of fact the guy at M&D Diesel Performance told me that the FASS was sending "TO MUCH" fuel pressure and thats what caused the pump to go bad...
So to please him since they do the rebuilds on the pumps and I want to continue to rely on him for service we dropped the pressure to 15psi which meets Bosch's spec's, but still 0216 what gives ????
Also for every body who is just tuning in... Their is no programmer's, chips, modules, or power enhancement's done to the truck...

The 0216 code is a timing error and so anything going bad in that circuit can throw it. Most commonly the VP44 high pressure diaphram seal failure can cause it, but also the timing piston can sieze, perhaps from water in the fuel. If the pump has been properly rebuilt these mechanical failures can probably be ruled out.
Electronics are also part of the system. Maybe, somehow, the FPCM is getting fried.

The pump is under warranty, but I'm starting to wonder if it is something else...
Maybe a bad ECU, the only thing I can think of is maybe from the code being on so long that it burned itself into the ECU's memory since the ECU is a Reman. but to me that seems highly unlikely...
The guy @ M & D who rebuilds the pumps blamed it on the FASS he pulled a reading at the VP44 of 23 psi, he said that this was the problem.
With the correction made now the pressure is at 15psi, but the code is still there, so did the pressure blow the high pressure diaphram seal that fast???
I would hate for them to put on another pump, and that not be the problem...

My guess is you're going to have to talk to the rebuilder of the previous VP44 and see what went wrong with it. How do you know where to look when you don't know which exact part failed? I personally don't feel it was caused by the high pressures of the FASS. If the FPCM is fried, then anything in the CANBUS curcuit has the potential to cause it, including the ECM and variuos sensors. For that matter, something else in that curcuit can be tricking the ECM to throw the code and the VP44 is ok.
