Emissions

I have a question for y'all. I am going to be moving up there in a few weeks. Do they do emissions and checks on are diesels? Or is that just for cars?

Just gassers. All vehicles are subject to an annual safety inspection though. The '06 should have no trouble with the inspection. If the bugs are rusty you will be hassled. No rust holes permitted in the passenger compartment.

What area are you moving to?

They don't even look for one. As long as the exhaust system is not rusted or leaking it will pass. It's a safety inspection, and it's done by independent garages so it's mainly a way to sell brake jobs and light bulbs.

Dont forget wiper blades

You are supposed to do a visual anti-tamper check during a safety inspection. I usually let it slide unless it is a Civic with a 5" fart pipe.

http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/06...5/s175.80.html

(d) Visual inspection of emission control system. Vehicles registered in counties where there is not an emission inspection program under Chapter 177 (relating to emission inspection program), shall be checked visually for the presence of emission control components. These components may be original vehicle equipment or an equivalent aftermarket replacement component meeting the same standards. In addition to the exceptions under § 175.4 (relating to vehicles required to be inspected), this subsection does not apply to vehicles registered as collectible or classic motor vehicles as defined in 75 Pa.C.S. § 102 (relating to definitions).

^^^ 100% true statement. Some guys in our shop are 100% by the book and then there are guys like me who are a little more realistic.

P.S. Do not take in your truck and hand over the keys saying "It doesnt need anything, just go ahead and sticker it" Pretty much an automatic fail.

I also heard that there was a chnage that you had to have a muffler now. Last year I passed inspection no probs. Was talking to a guy at dealer that said you need to have a muffler. I think before I hand over the keys I'm going to go ask or I know a guy that will fail you for the real safety issues, but not for having a delete pipe.

I think you've always needed a muffler. Just get one like I have. Its 4" straight through with just a larger pipe around it

Just ran the old diesel through inspection, no muffler, just delete pipe with the cat on and nothing was said about a muffler. Took it to a shop that is good and won't let things fly.
