zero turn mowers ......

hey guys, im looking at a Yazoo/Kees zero turn mower.its the mid max with the 21HP V-Twin Kawasaki. it looks like a really well built quality machine, really heavy duty. im not sure its quite on the same level as the ex-mark mowers but then again neither is the price tag. so has anyone had experience with this brand of mower ? how about experience with the kawasaki v-twin ? ive always had good luck with the kohler command engines so im just curious about the kawasaki. dealer claims he has not had any trouble with the kawasakis or the kohlers. he seems like a pretty honest guy and is an amish man ( pa dutch ) and they are generally on the ball when it comes to this kind of stuff. any thoughts ? scott

I bought a commercial Gravely Z 44" with the 17 HP V twin Kaw and have been very pleased with the engine and mower. I have about 65 hrs on it right now.

I have had both Scag & Exmark mowers. I currently run an ExMark turf tracer 60.

If you would consider a used one, there is a guy just over the bridge in Woodbury, N.J that I bought my last two from. They are "off lease" commercial mowers. He sells Scag, Great Dane, Exmark and a few other big names. He handles 40-50 units a time and has all conditions, hours ranging from about 500 to 1500. Great guy to deal with, no B.S, great pricing.

I bought a monsterous 72 Scag walk behind a few years ago for $2300. This last one I bought was closer to 3K, but the condition and quality of the unit is awesome.
My brother in law has 17 Kawasaki on an older Exmark belt drive. Horrible maintenance schedule, abusive situation, it is still kicking about 7 years later.

I have nothing bad to say about the Kawasaki commercials, but the Kohler Command series is about bulletproof.

I've heard good things about Lesco's mowers. Supposed to be the best bang for your buck too.

I've run toro z masters. Never any other 0 turn mowers. The z master was a 60 inch ran great mowed great and had not problems. The guy that owns it has 3 of them and thats all he runs. I've also used a gravely 36 inch push mower. It had a single kaw on it. Mowed reall good and did its job. If buying a new mower i'd go with the toro, but thats just cuz i've used them and know how good they are.

Do yourself a favor and at least have a look at the Dixie Choppers. My brother loves his, and it will mow at 12 mph.

I own Exmark and would suggest to look at them.

I have had awesome results with the Kawi motors. None of my mates have ever had any serious problems with them either.

Have you seen what those beasts cost!?

Although, one of my customers has one and I keep trying to get him to let me put it on the street! He won't let me, I can't understand why!

I will vote for the durability of the Kohler Command as well! The Kawi's are good engines, but I have two draw backs the cost of parts and if they are side by side with a Kohler the fuel economy is terrible. My dad has a Scag with the Kawisaki and it drinks the gas. I work for a Dixon dealership and while they cost more, I belive that they are well worth the money in the long run.

i have a ferris zero turn with a 23 hp kawasaki motor. it has been great, i have just shy of 1100 hrs on it and it need nothing. the suspension is a nice thing on the ferris mowers. i have about 200 trees and my place is real hilly so it gets a work out. but all of the real comercial mowers are quality units. beware of light duty deck and frames, good comercial stuff won't be pressed and formed steel, it will be welded.

12 MPH = $10,000.

The Tank by Cub Cadet uses a Honda 20 hp. motor, and I really feel it is a great mower.
