Are you responsible for many of the illegal aliens in the US?

Rob_OBX, I highly respect your work ethic but I'm sure you'll admit you're not the norm. Heck even a Hispanic doesn't want to do ag labor after they've been in the US a few years. That's why when Reagan and now Bush propose to legalize illegals part of the requirement was/is they stay in ag related work for a certain number of years. That's also why I'd rather hire a fellow new to the US rather than one whose been here for awhile, they're just more eager to please, then they figure out the system...

I know the present situation leaves much to be desired but that's just the way it is until Americans are fine with paying 50% of their incomes for food as it is in most of the world instead of the 5% they pay now. I don't see much changing till then. It has more to do with worker productivity than it does with how much they're paid. And believe me I've tried them all the last 40 years, hippies and winos were the only ones who wanted to do ag work and neither could hold a candle to a Mexican.

Infidel, I agree it's not as if you have much choice. You CAN'T FIND people to work. A couple of years ago you could find somebody to help you cut and spike tobacco now you can't. There is no one who will do it for $7 an hour. You can't pay anyone more or you can't eat. So lazy American are putting farmers in this position. Granted big companies exploit illegals for their own gain but farmers HAVE to have them. I think the thing to do about welfare is make them pick their checks up at the post office the ones who can walk in to get them put their butts to work for $7/hour. The first of the month would not be so inviting for them then!

Talking about ag work. Where I live in Southern Ontario is Tobacco Country. Most farmers hire a mexican family to live on the farm and work the whole season. Right from pulling and planting all the way to the strip room in the fall. I just work in harvest priming tobacco. And let me tell you, that is the worst job you will ever have. We get the really humid heat up here in Canada the last few summers where it just wants to rain but it wont so its up around 35 degrees, and feels like 45. Later in harvest the mornings get cold, and I mean COLD. It is usually just above freezing when we get out there at 530. And some mornings it is freezing, so the farmer irrigates so the plates wont freeze. Now when you get up at 430, and go out into a tobacco field and you start to prime frozen leaves you can get quite miserable pretty fast. As far as the mexicans, they are no different workers then us Canadians, you get bad ones and you get good ones. Out in the field we have 5 primers going at once. Usually if you have a couple Canadians and then the farmers coming out once in a while the mexicans will work good, same with the jamaicans. But if you get either of them on their own, they will work slow, and make a mess of the field. As far as illegal ones up here, I dont think there is any, they are probably caught before they get to Canada. We just mostly have the Omish Mexicans here, and they usually move up here, mabye go back to Mexico for a few months in the springtime before asparagus. The Jamaicans only come up for the season and then they go back down there. I dont think they like the winters lol. It will be 35 degrees, I will be in my shorts, and a tshirt sweating my butt off and the Jamaican beside me will be wearing two sweatshirts, pants plus rainpants, boots, and a touque (wool cap) lol.

Just my 2 cents....
again....

One thing a lot of people are overlooking is the national security aspect of having such porous borders. Regardless of who's taking who's job, etc. it's not reassuring that it's so easy to cross without being caught. Don't think Osama et. al. haven't noticed that. We need to crack down on the border something fierce.

Hopefully this comes across right:

The slaves didn't abuse the system and use taxpayers money to get free goods and services without paying anything back into the system.

Sure the owner had to feed/cloth/shelter them, but got work in return.

Not trying to be racist or promote slavery.

jfpointer hit the nail right square on the head!

We are being told that our borders are safe, we are being told that we need to pay even MORE in order to be safe from terrorists. We are having our rights taken away with the so called "patriots act". We are being forced to take 21/2 hours just to fly so we can go through rediculous safety checks at the airports where they yank 85 year old grandmas out of line to search them. (Instead of looking where we need to look)

Yet, hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens stream across the border every year...
Where is the logic in that?

Either we Americans are the stupidest people on earth...... or the laziest.

Get your butts to the polls and throw out all the incumbents. EVERY YEAR.

Amen! Many times I have on this site spoken about the fact America needs to wake up. You are not only facing, but are in the biggest fight in your history. OK, this is detracting from the thread a little but forgive me, but your way of life, your Christian history is steadily being eroded. One reason is that too many of you are sitting on your hands waiting for the next guy to do something. Come on Americans, what has happened to your vision? You are allowing crooked and self serving politicians and lawyers to lead you down the garden path. WAKE UP!!!!! The do-gooders, the stupid actors and actresses in Hollywood, the abortionists, the atheists and similar people are dictating to you their distorted vision of what and how things should be. Imagine an America under someone like Kerry? If he gets in, who is to blame? YOU and only YOU. If America continues it's slide down the tubes who will be to blame? YOU!
So what are YOU doing to take America back from the brink of hell? Where is your backbone? Where is your will? Your forefathers did it right. Why can't YOU? Get off your overweight and lazy butts and do something constructive for your country instead of waiting for some misguided politician to do it (badly) for you.
Sorry, but I just had to rant for a bit.

Thanks apache. Unfortunately my experience has shown that any words of truth tend to drive people away because the truth hurts and most don't want to see it because to do anything about it means that they need to leave their comfort zone. Don't think that the terrorists have not taken note of this human failing. Words of truth are seldom appreciated.
