You Guys Seen Marine Michael Burghardt?

Perusing through Snopes I came across this gem.

http://www.snopes.com/photos/military/burghardt.asp

Unfortunately, that day Sgt. Burghardt was unsuccessful at disarming an IED before the device exploded, showering and burying him with dirt, shrapnel, and other debris. Colleagues rushed to his aid, initially fearing he was dead, but remarkably his injuries were mostly limited to wounds and burns on his back, legs, and backside, and he returned to duty less than a month later.

While Sgt. Burghardt spent over three weeks recuperating at his unit's headquarters — days he described as "among the most difficult of his career" — he proclaimed that despite his injuries, he was not looking for a ticket out of the country — the incident occurred during his third deployment to Iraq, and he stated that he planned to see plenty more action: "I don't want a ticket out. I want to stay here so we can take as many people home as possible. I'll do 30 years, as long as I'm having fun. Unless I die."
I don't know the exact words that can be used to describe that kind of character, but I respect it.

And the picture in the link is the greatest inspirational photo of all time, bar none. Beats the pant's off of the kitten hanging on the branch...

This kind of defiance is one of the things that will win this war.

We need more folks with this attitude in society as a whole. Standing up to any kind of "wrong" is the best way to defeat the bad guys.

I can't believe that he got out with only minor wounds. I do believe that this guy has a set of brass, in you know what I mean. I think it is great how he stands up and is unwilling to give up.

Hate to tell everybody, but that's not the real story on that pick. Here's what really happened...He walked into the chow tent and tried to take the cheeseburger MRE from a PFC who had just come back from a two day patrol and had had nothing but ham slices because his squad "hooked him up." Don't mess with a hungry PFC!

Ham slices are still better than "The 4 Fingers of Death". That gunny's Hard Corps though.
