That wouldn't be good... It would be a satellite radio monopoly, and would most likely result in the subscription costs doubling.

Yep, I was wondering if the rates will go up.
Update: It looks as if they have announced the merger

Looks like it might be a good thing, they said something about offering ala carte programming... you pick the channels you want to listen to.

I don't care what it costs as long as I can pick what I want. Cable and sat TV could take some notes!

how much ya wanna bet that if you have either an xm or sirius reciever, you'll have to buy another one to receive the new signal when they merge. just another way to get money. and i just got a new xm reciever for xmas worth almost $200

I think it'll start to look like the cable bill.

Well, I hope that the merger is anti-trusted. I don't think it will be, as both companies are going to say that they're in the same market as MP3 players and old fashioned radio, and as a relatively new technology the courts are probably going to agree with them.

At it least it solves the issues of dead spots with either service...

I dont think you will have to buy another receiver to get both programs. All they have to do is reprogram the towers. Kinda like Sprint/Nextel. I dont see the prices going up too much anyways. You have to think, this radio service is only a luxury, they know this. Most people will discontinue service before payin a huge monthly subscription fee.

O and A on Sirius would be great. Cant stand Howard. I had xm for about 2 years and have had Sirius about 3 months. If I could pick my favorites from each, that would be sweet.

I know one thing, I hope this doesn't affect my sirius programming. I much prefer sirius over XM.
