Writing a book, need some resources
Hey all. Started writing a new book and need some resources so I keep my facts in line. This is not a profession, just something I do to get away from the world. My new book is a crime type story and I always like to be sure that the scenarios, procedures, and processes are as accurate as I can make them.
Since I have no law enforcement experience, I really want to make sure that I get things as accurate as possible.
What I am looking for in general are some guys that would be willing to explain the intricacies of investigation, crime lab capabilities, jurisdiction, victim identification, family notification. Things like that.
I'm not sure if it would be better to post up a specific question or if it would be better to PM. I guess what ever makes people most comfortable.
The first question regarding procedure and victim identification is if a person were found murdered, and had no criminal record, but there were finger prints via DMV. How much info can the police get? If there is no next of kin, can they get phone numbers, bank account info, and say maybe a SSN?
Also, if the person is not 100% identified, do they need a warrant to obtain info or is that not necessary because the victim is now deceased?
Second question has to do with Crime lab stuff. I was wondering if it were possible to identify the characteristics, forensically, between two types of burnt gun powder. Like could you match residue from a victim, to a shooters hand, with a chemical signature. Or would all gun powders have the same chemical signature?
Thanks All.

Mostly short stories. This would be considered my first book of more than 100 pages or so. So far I am only at about 40, but I just started so it will be pretty long. Maybe a few hundred this time. Should be pretty fun.

Your youth??? your only a few years older than me. At what age does youth end?? I'm thinkin, 75 or so!!!!
Write it down as you go. What ever you do, don't store it on a computer. I had a different book started about a year and a half ago and lost the whole thing. I could never get it back, just gave up on it.
I have copies of this one stashed all over the country!!!

Oh please tell the story of ending up in Florida without any idea of how you got there. Or maybe the stories of Metallica's bus driver?
