Won PayPal dispute and the guy sent me a Trojan Horse! What's my recourse?
The good news is that I was relentless at trying to get this cleaned up and finally I was able to get my anti-virus and Malware programs to open up and I apparently got rid of it. It's at least quarantined for now and my computer seems to be fine. I'll still get my brother to come over with all his virus programs and give her the once over before I log into anything important like my banking site.
I still have to be nice for now because I am waiting to get my money back from the guy.

In light of this unfortunate dilemma you find yourself in, let us assist you in a small way; post your bank name, account number and password and one of us here will take care of your banking for you!
I've been here a few times...a hole in the ground... If you won the dispute with pay pal he has a few days to pay manually otherwise paypal will take funds from him and transfer them to you. Also you should leave negative feedback unless he has a minimal raitng(like 10 feedbacks), negative feedback with a warning of a virus will definitely deter customers ultimately screwing him in the long run. If he seems like a nice guy just ****** off and innocent best not take food out of a mans mouth or for what its worth his whole family's mouth.
If hes a bad guy he most likely will have under 50 feedbacks and they will mostly be all good and from the same 50 people that leave good feedback on each others accounts buying stupid things for 5 and 10 and even 20 dollars, and all the high dollar items will be negative... you need to look at the feedback closely these days. either low to none is good, or a really high power seller is good, because powersellers are ebay monitored for such reasons as your experience.

The FBI defines terrorism as the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives. Cyber-terrorism could thus be defined as the use of computing resources to intimidate or coerce others. An example of cyber-terrorism could be hacking into a hospital computer system and changing someone's medicine prescription to a lethal dosage as an act of revenge. It sounds far fetched, but these things can and do happen.
While dated, this information applies directly to what has happened to you.
DO NOT let anyone touch that computer!!! Turn it off, unplug it, and consider it evidence.
You can call the local FBI field office and see if they will be willing to help you. He might be small potatoes to them, but just in case you need to turn your computer over to them its now ready to go.
As a comsumer, you can also report him to the Office of the Attorney General (Consumer Affairs Office/Dept) and put him on their list of bad retailers. You can also inform e-Bay you've done this when you file the complaint with them.
If you guys read post #11 you will see that this link apparently did not have the virus attached to it. It was either just a coincidence or the virus was already there waiting to get inside the computer. The anti-virus my brother uses is the best thing out there and he has no fears opening anything up and if he tells me the link was clean then I believe him. Either way, my computer is clean and I will not pursue this anymore. BTW, the seller has almost 600 transactions without ever a negative feedback although there are several instances where there were issues that ended up getting resolved.......
It was most likely in the email he sent you and when you sent the file to your brother from your work computer your company's virus scanner probably stripped it out of the email before sending the email.
Try sending it again from the work computer and see if it finds it again.

Yeah, I tried sending it to myself after my brother had no issues and I think maybe my computer here removed it when I sent it the first time. I just tried again and it does not tell me anything now. I'm definitely not clicking on the link again.....
I just checked my Symantec log here at work and it tells me it was a low risk Trojan and it was successfully removed. So, that tells me it WAS still there when I forwarded the e-mail.....
I can't believe I haven't heard back from E-Bay on this.....
