winch behind the bumper
A few months ago I asked if anyone knew of or if a behind the bumper mounting kit for a Warn winch was available for the ’03 Dodge 2500.
My son-in-law, a volunteer fireman, has a Hemi 2500 and he wanted to mount the Warn winch that was on his ’97 Dodge 2500 behind the bumper.. He had seen a winch behind the bumper on a 1500 and found the mounting kit for that model. He finally purchased the kit for the 1500 and knew that he would have to make changes to make it work. He found that the frame on the 2500/3500 is about 6 inches wider and larger than the 1500. After some modifications he got it mounted, only to find that it was an inch or so to low for the cable guide braces to go through the slot in the bumper. Rather than re-do the whole thing, he notched the bumper. The notch is hidden by the cable guides.
There is not enough room on a CTD to mount a winch behind the bumper, or al least that is the way it appears to me. Someone always finds a way if they are so inclined.
Attached are a few pics. I think it looks good.
