Wilson CB Antenna's
I am stoked! Just got a Cobra 29 WX NW ST CB. Read a lot here about CB's and did some poking around a few other places and concluded that this one ought to suffice nicely!
Now for the antenna(s). I have stacks, so duals on the bed are out of the question. I am not keen on duals on the front fenders. I am most likely going to mount a single antenna on the bed rail up by the cab, and in the middle between the stacks. Height is not to much of an issue, however I don't tow enough to worry about having to get up high enough to deal with a trailer.
Read quite a bit here about options, and have pretty much settled on a Wilson product and would like input on which one to get. In doing some research, the Wilson 1000 / 5000 and the Wilson Trucker 2000 / 5000 seem like the high end of things and the cat's meow. I am almost sold on the Wilson 5000 for a couple of reasons, but wanted to know what the differences between it and the Trucker 5000 were? I don't mind spending some money on the antenna, as I understand it's the better part of half the ballgame when it comes to reception and transmission.
Also, what's the best cable to get?
Thanks!!
Matt

It all depends on how you are going to use the rig ''CB''just talking, just short trips, on long distance trips, A trip is how far you get out ''can talk''. I don't thank their is a better antenna than wilson. I Do thank placement is the key were you put it .The best is in the center of the cab. That way you can talk in front as far as behind you. If you put yours on the bed you can get out behind you better.
My antenna is on top of the cab in the center of the cab. Make imaginary X on the cab and thats were it goes to receive & transmit the best.
I have also Sean duels wilsons bolted to the fender under the hood.

I have the Wilson Super Trucker. I got it mounted on the center front bed rail. I just uploaded pictures into my gallery so sometime today they should available for viewing. One thing I did was I got some matching paint and painted it to match the truck. I think it looks pretty sweet.
I have a 'lil Will mahnet mount in conjuncuction with my Cobra 29 limited edition "Dale Earnhardt" radio.
I don't really like the antenae to tell you the trruth. SO far I'd say it has given me lacklustre performance.
The C.B Guru at the T.A where I bought the radio said that would be the most potent combination.
I think I'm going to try fibreglass whips.
I like the look but want them mounted on the box but want to get a soft tonneau cover as well.

wilson 5K is a little overkill no pun intended. wilson 1K is good for 1000 watts... 5k good for 5000 watts.
Either of these are awesome. I had mine drill mounted to the center of my roof, if you can tolerate drilling a hole in your roof this is probably the best way to go. It looks a little goofy but it GETS OUT.

njoverkill is correct on the 1k and 5k. I had asked a local CB Shop owner about the difference between them several years ago and that's basically the only difference - it can handle more watt-age. I currently have a wilson 1k and I'm not happy with it at all. First off it's a magnetic mount and it has never worked properly with my Cobra 148 GTL, why? I don't know. I've had the shop check it out and they're also at a loss. As soon as my headache rack arrives that I recently purchased, I'm going to remount my 102" whip on that (the rack comes with an antenna mount) and go back to having the reception and distance I used to have. I had been a "skip" shooter for several years till I had to drop down to that Wilson - since then I'm stuck with local traffic only, even though I run a 350 watt class AB linear also.
Hmmmmmm.. just had a second thought....
I do need to stop by that shop for a new power mic and should check to see if the Firestick's are still around - or what newer ones have come out since those were first around....

I've had real good luck with Wilson antennas over the years. I have been running the 5000 for a little over a 4 years now behind a Galaxy DX73V and a Palomar 150. For mics, I always go for the Astactic line.
