Who rides dirt bikes?
After about a 10-yr hiatus I'm getting back into dirt bikes, mostly because of my brother and my 3-yr old son. My nephew has grown out of his 50cc quad, so I bought it for my son (he loves the thing). And since my brother destroyed my last bike (a CR250) he gave me his old '85 Kawasaki KX500. I figure I'll ride that for a year or two then pick up a newer 250cc 2-stroke.
So, what do you guys ride?

AMA Enduro Racer for 4 years. Alot of fun and a few trophies. I started out when I was 4 years old on a Honda ZR50, then came a YZ 85, after that a
KX300 and Now a CRF450X. Did do much racing this year, because I had to keep up the deer lease, but Im planning on taking the circuit next year!

Well that's what I heard also but I was at my local KTM dealer picking up my bike and I asked them about the new ones and they said they are selling twice as many 2 strokes as 4. They said that a couple of years ago Honda was "blowing smoke" about 2 strokes being outlawed so everyone jumped on the 4 stroke bandwagon for a while. Then after people owned a 4 stroke for a while the started switching back. 4 Strokes are expensive to maintain, heavier and harder to start. I love my KTM 300EXC and right now I wouldn't look at a 4 stroke dirtbike, however when I replace the waverunner or snowmobiles I believe I'll go 4 stroke all the way.
i ride an old 1980 honda xl250s.not the fastest thing on the planet but works great out in my woods.i used to have an old yz and got rid of it,figured i'd wrap myself around a tree someday.better safe then sorry.

I have raced GNCC's and local AMA hare scrambles for the past 15 years.( KTM 250)..... If you ever get the itch to go racing I would suggest a local hare scramble. . They have classes for every age and skill level.. There are really completitive classes and classes for the guys that are really just looking to ride around the track...
Honda thumper for me, XR-250 (bomb'ed of course

KTM has no plans of eliminating their 2 strokes. The XC and XC-W models are their best sellers by far... Go to any GNCC race and I bet it is 3/4 KTM 2 strokes..

I jumped on the 4 stroke bandwagon after racing a 2 stroke for years. I had a WR 426 and only raced it 2 years and I was right back on a orange 2 stroker..
I have 8 years of racing KTMs and only DNF'd one race so far. ( broken chain) Unless you count knocking yourself silly hitting a few trees !!
My race buddies and I always pay attention to what make and model bikes are broke down on the side of the track during the 3 hour GNCC races. What better test of a machine than beating the snot out of it for 3 straight hours.
I would say 7 out of 10 that were being towed out of the woods were 4 strokes. And, oddly enough, CRF 450's seem to overheat ALOT quicker than any others... The CRX 450 model seemed to reduce the overheating problem with the larger radiators though...

Nothing screams "im here for a good time not a long time" quite like that
