Who can drive a stick?
Who can drive a stick?
How many of you can drive a stick? I assume that most of you can drive one, but you would be supized at how many people cant. What suprizes me the most is people not wanting to learn. 8 out of 10 poeple I talk to that who can't drive a stick dont even want to learn. It's not like it's hard to do, it just takes a little practice. I learned at the age of 11 on a 51 cj3a, and I know drive a standard every day. I just cant belive that people cant, and dont want to learn how to.

I had a heck of a time driving a Kenworth with an 11-speed once...Been a LLOOONNNGGG time since I've driven a split axle, but now and again I find myself rowing thru the gears
If it wasnt for my wife, who cant, my truck would be a 6er

I learned on my dad's 83 Bronco with the old granny 4speed and a tired clutch--not a very forgiving learning tool. I'm working the little lady up to driving old moldy, but my detroit adds a lot of lash to the drivetrain, so I fear for the driveshaft!
Been driving sticks since my first car. A 55 Chevy 210 with 3 speed on the column. It was a six banger and was loads of fun. Automatics are for wussies.
{edit} And my wife drives a stick too. She ordered it that way. She wanted a rock climber that was reliable.

I could drive one if I had to, but since the only manual vehicle I've ever owned or driven for any period of time is a dirt bike, I've never had the opportunity to learn.
I'd also have to unlearn two-footed driving first.
Besides, automatics are better anyways.
And I always downshift the tranny manually... It doesn't do much on my truck while going down hill, but I can kick the three speed down a gear faster by hand than it does by itself.
I also usually up-shift manually myself as well, but I think that the tranny could do that faster all by itself than I can.
I think that my rooster comb thing is about ready to reach up and hit me in the nose.

I can drive a stick and I love to. I learned on a 1972 Ford work truck. I've driven everything from tractors to grain trucks to an old ****** Jeep to four wheelers. The most gears I've ever had to deal with was on our grain truck. 18 speeds sure can wear your arm out pretty quick, at least it don't need to be clutched.
I too have found that most people don't care to learn how to drive a stick. Baffling.
I was never really taught how to drive stick. My Mom's car when I was growing up was a '68 Nova with a 3 speed column shift. I learned by watching and listening. When it was time I just got in and drove. First couple starts were a little jerky, but I never had much trouble.

I learned on a early 90's crew cab, long bed, 2wd ford with a 351 that had over 200k miles on it. I love driving a stick. Everytime I come home I drive my dad's vette which has the 6spd. Nothing makes me happier than rowing through the gears.
