Where to Look for Used Cummins Trucks?

Besides Ebay / Autotrader / here / and other cummins forums, give me some other places to look. I found an old Ford 7.3 diesel the other day and decided it wasn't the truck I wanted, b/c I really want an old school cummins to replace my S-10. But, it has got me back in the ballgame for looking for a truck. I'll take a 1st or 2nd gen, 12 valve, manual, 4x4 preferred, but I would bet a 2wd would be less abused... I could care less about pw pdl and stuff like that, but the A/C MUST blow cold. Anyways, throw out some site suggestions if there are any more .

North Alabama (Huntsville), but I will consider most anything in a 300 mile radius, that means Florida, up the east coast across to Indiana, west to Arkansas/ Texus and back around.

I live in Cullman, ALabama. There is a used lot here, that keeps a pile of HD trucks. I bought mine from there, and he has about 10 used cummins there right now. He has a real nice 04, QC, 4x4, Gold/tan whichever, Price is not on the windshield, but I speculate 26,000. Man has some nice trucks, let me know if your interested....

houston has a good many used car lots. most you wanna stay away from. Baytown Dodge always has at least 10 ctd's w/ all different options. there's a used truck lot on the NW side called Houston Truck Group. they have many, many used ctd's, duramax's, and powerstrokes. i know people come from far and wide to the HTG. good luck

Alright, lemme add something else, I have 10 months left in college (Mechanical Engineering), just bought a new house, will be living off of GI Bill and 20 hrs a week from Lockheed Martin, so I don't have 26K to spend, but I could afford a good 1st gen. or 2nd gen 12 valve (if they are priced at what they are worth, not at what people are asking for them). I don't mean this to step on anybody's toes, and I know the cummins will last forever, but other things will not. I am leaning more toward an old first gen. because not many of them are worth more than, dare I say $5000 for a nice 4x4, less for 2wd, and keep going down for trucks in crappy condition.

For instance, there is a 12V 2nd gen for sale on here, that is price at $12k, but is worth $7k . That's a little extreme.

well it may not be worth 5k to you but i promise you a good clean first gen 4x4 will pull much more than 5k. and the auto trader, e bay and the papers are going to be your best bet. unless you can steal a truck from a old widow woman. which sound like your plan, good luck you are going to need it.

By much more what do you estimate a good clean 1st gen 4x4 cummins 5spd is worth. I understand that these trucks are great trucks, but when I see a 1st gen cummins 4x4 truck that has the paint falling off of it, all rusted up, banged up, and they're still asking 6 grand for it b/c it's got a cummins in it, I feel that's steep.

Appreciate it man. Where's the lot, is it off of 31?

yeah, it is off of 31.

Here is what I found that might interest you..

97'/4x4/12v(of course)/Auto/139,000 miles/Extended Cab, deep extended, like 2nd gen Quad Cab, but no rear doors/The dark Green color/New Tires/Appears to be in great shape, although it was locked, so I didn't get a chance to pop the hood and see what the engine compartment looked like.

The best part $9750-no trade in or $9990 with trade in. I think that is a great price for this truck. If it were a stick, I would not be telling you about it, as I am looking for one to build for a puller. So with that said, you said only working 20 hours a week, I bet you could get this thing for about a $120 a month payment. And if you had the extra money each month, just adding another $100 to the payment, you would pay it off real quick. This lot also will set up financing for you, He sent mine through a credit union, which sends me a statement each month that show how the break down of the funds that I send them goes as far as money on interest/money towards principal/ and so forth, no more wondering what your payoff is...

Just kidding, I would let you know either way, as I am all about helping my fellow man out.

Good, I might ride down there this weekend. I think I know which lot that is, but then again there are 2500 used car lots in Cullman, so things could have changed since last time I was down there. I bought a 91 Z28 down there back in 98. If you are in the market for a F-body, Mustang, or Truck, nothing beats Cullman.

if you come from the North, you will cross HWY 158, on your left will be a chevrolet dealership, and if you look up to the right as you cross, you will see Eckenrod Ford, drive on and on your right, you will see North Alabama wholesale. It is kinda up on a hill, it will be the second used lot on your right on 31 after you cross 158. Joel Ness is the son and half owner with his father, and is the one I would deal with, he gets straight to the point, and is a good guy.

Tell him Wayne Gilmore told you about the trucks and his lot.

he also has a car lot right beside the truck lot, and he has some fast cars on there as well.
