A "what's interesting about your job" thread
see if you can guess my vocation:
I get to wear anything I want, as long as it can be covered by a gown.
I play 'people roulette' where I have thirty seconds to change their lives forever, whether I am right or wrong.
I get to hear more problems than Oprah, Ann Landers and Dr. Phil combined.
I do this for fun but get paid mileage and food, and travel 10 months out of the year within the same state.
I get reminded that I am very short, every time I start work.
I actually feel that I have made a difference in the world when I leave.

i run and program a vertical machining center. it has 60"x30"x26"( the biggest in the shop) of travel. here is a pic of my latest creation.

these are the 2 punches for a die to make replica john deer tractor hoods. there is also 4 plates that makes up the rest of the die. this is for the part where the steering shaft goes down through the hood. i had to make 3 differt dies for differnt styles of hoods.
i work on all kinds of differnt things. Once i worked on a welding test plate for a nuke reactor. we also fix lots of machinery for the dairy industry.
It is kinda nice knowin that i can make just about anything i want out of a square block of metal or plastic

I work for a big, french nuclear company. They own a few uranium mines all over the world. We're developing a couple of new ore bodies and expanding the existing mill. It's not that exciting anymore. You don't want to work for the french.
Now, there's a couple of real head-turning hotties in the office. That's a different story. Hard to concentrate on work.............

i do fleet maintence for CPS energy in san antonio. not very exciting but it pays the bills while i go to school. Funny thing is in the division iam the most i can make(senior mechanic) is the starting pay for the degree i am going to get with the same company
Not very exciting until some sort of storm rolls thru, I'm in charge of my companies section of the power grid. I get to work rotating shifts, but I do get a lot of time off, from now thru the end of the year I will work 4 weeks and take 2 weeks off, work 4 weeks take 2 off etc.
I work for a subcontract construction Company, I get to work with premadonna Architects, GC's with an atitude, accelerated unrealistic shedules with labor and material shortages thrown in for good measure.
The best part of my job (besides the pay) is leaving it when I go home to see my 6 month old son.
