What would you do...(long)

Hey guys give me some input and thoughts on this...

Last night I left with 2 buddies and my girlfriend to go pick up brandon(97 CTD)'s truck from enterprise. We left at 9pm and got back home around 1:30am. I live out in the country and no one ever bothers anything, my dad leaves his keys in cars etc. Well, both my buddies' cars were there along with my girlfriend's, she left her keys in her car like normal. When we got back her car was gone but everything else was the same. Police were called and her and her dad went to the station while me and my buddy drove around town just to see if we could find it, thinking maybe a friend took it trying to be funny. One road over, about half mile away, we come up on a single car wreck with 3 kids standing out of the SUV, cops and tow trucks were there, no big deal...My girlfriend calls me from the station and I tell her about the wreck she tells me that the cops told her the driver of the SUV fled the scene. If he/she ran through the fields my house would be the first one you come to and her car would have been the first vehicle he came to...I know the odds are crazy but I really think this guy took her car. Now what I don't understand and here is where I need input, why can't the cops figure out who was driving the SUV? It was impounded and there were 3 kids who obviously knew the driver at the scene. It's frustrating that the police are wasting so much time when I think they could easily swing by this guy's house and have a chat with whoever is there...just looking for some thoughts, sorry so long

CLIFFS: Left house, went to enterprise, came home, car was stolen...possible suspect crashed his car half mile away and fled the scene, cops won't go try to find him even though they have his info...

If nothing happens by Monday morning, then I would tell the story to the local newspaper(s) and urge them to do some investigative reporting and place the story in the Tuesday rag.

There is really not alot you can do. if you havent reported it to insurance yet, that would be the next step. other that that all you can do is let the police do their job and hope they find her car.

All you can do is report the car stolen, report it to the insurance company, tell the insurance company the story as they will get the ball rolling on the missing dude from the SUV. You could report all this to your local media, they DO like these kind of stories and will push the police into action. The police hate it when they get caught being stupid. The media may well solve it all for you. Who knows, maybe this SUV guy has some ties to the local police and someone is trying to cover for him?

I wanted my truck back for about 5 min when it was stolen... I want my truck, not something molested by someone else.

Maybe you should have told them there was a box of Krispy Kremes in the back seat.

One time in Anaheim, CA my wife came home for lunch on her bicycle. She left it parked by the front door. When she came out it was gone but there was a clear track in the grass to a house 3 doors down the street. We called the cops and they wouldn't even come out to look.

And people wonder why I have a 9mm next to my bed.

More proof.......no matter where you live you can't leave anything unlocked, or with the keys in it.

Guess it paid off for her to keep her "toys" in her purse.

Hope you find the car totalled and get a new one, getting back a stolen vehicle is never good (they know how easy target you are to do it again, they may have made key copies, and they certainly drove the BEEP out of it.

Drove around last night around the neighborhoods where the purse was found. Some tracks in the yards around it make it seem like the guy just drove up there, threw the purse, and turned around...Going to look some more today after work...I will update this with any info
