What would you do with ~5 acres of land??

Ok people I'm looking for some helpful advice on what to do with the property around my house. I do not have a lot of $$ to spend so abviously the cheaper the better. I was thinking of a sod farm but that seems like a little more work than I want to do. I like the idea of an apple tree farm or Christmas tree farm because it seems like there is not a lot of up keep with the two ideas.

Please feel free to throwout your ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

or money trees!!!

I'd say plant you a variety of orchard trees, pears, apples, maybe even plums and a patch of strawberries. Then you could beat you a decorative path and have you plenty of shade.

I wouldn't do anything I would love to have 5 acres, build a big garage and put up a fence around the whole thing. You build a big enough garage to have a couple rental spots in it for storage fees.

Man, I hate the idea of sod farms. Seems like a good way to totally destroy a piece of land and make it into a worthless swamp. Might as well strip mine it and not put the topsoil back, it's the same thing just a longer time frame. I'm not a tree hugger, but I'd feel guilty about turning land into a sod farm.

With all of these farming ideas, what about a fish farm? Rent a dozer and dig a bunch of holes. Of course I know nothing about raising fish.

I recently purchased 6 acres and plan on a nice house (nothing large), about an acre pond, and a big ole' shop.

Christmas trees would be a good idea if you think you could retail them right out of your yard. 6x6 spacing you could fit 1000 trees per acre/ $30-40 ea. Plant 200 the first year, 400 the second year and 500 per year thereafter. It will take you 6 or 8 years to fill it up, by then you'll be selling and replanting the spots where you cut.

They are a lot of work but if you get what you give.

Fence it and get some boer goats...maybe 5 nannies and 1 billie to start. Start raising them and maintain @ 20 and then you can call it a farm and have some deductions, that's what I'm planning on doing anyway. Just be careful not to throw too many red flags but the way I understand it, as long as you are attempting to make a profit you're good to go.

The beauty of it is a goat will pretty much take care of themselves and keep your place free of weeds, brush, boots, cans, etc.....
