are they the edible kind? my old boss at the airport always talked about mushroom hunting, and was wondering if these were the kind he was talking about. he said they were really good.

Dont eat those. The "mushroom hunting" kind have a sponge looking body. Google Edible mushrooms. The Morells(sp) are the one eatin kind.

er...

Wild mushrooms are something to avoid unless you know exactly what you are doing. If you have to ask, the answer should be 'do no eat'.

You don't want those!

Heres a morel. Cleaned, battered and deep fried they're good!

Be aware that there is a false morel.

Those look like stumpies, if they are, people do eat them. I haven't tried yet.

Those beefsteaks, one of the false morels, are good eating, but can be dangerous. You can be fine once and develope an allergic reaction without warning anytimte in life. I use to eat them with scrambled eggs, and developed a reaction and never touched them since. My throat, mouth and tongue started to swell and go numb. I sat on the couch holding the phone in case I had to call 911 and drank a ton of water.

Eating wild mushrooms is something to be done only after much study. You'll need to be familiar with the characteristics the mushroom has, and any that look similar. Get a spore print of those and I can give you a better idea what they are. A field guide would help get you going.

i don't have a picture but there is another mushroom here in michigan we call a "Puff Ball" . They are sometimes 12" in diameter and are white. you can slice these guys up dip in in corn meal or cracker crumbs and fry em up------maybe even better than the morels--but real rich--won't eat much to get your fill.
