Absolutely! You have to get them when they're still solid and white all the way through. Slice about 1/2 inch thick and dip in egg like french toast. Good stuff.

nothing beats a freshly picked, cleaned and battered morrell mushroom... sadly, those in your picture are not morrell's.

Cleaned? You get a snail, it's a bonus. We call it a stuffed mushroom. Stuffed with escargot....

I think the whole idea of eating a fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting body of a fungus sounds perfectly nasty but that is just me.
Especially when I see them growing in a pile of horsey doo doo or where ever the neighbors cat goes in my yard.

But if I was into eating them I would be afraid of picking the poison kind or the magic ones.

Wifey the biologist, has a very comprehensive book for 'shrooms, (toadstools and other bizzarre fungi). I read through it, and that convinced me just how close some dangerous ones look like edible ones... Lots of very high detail color prints, and safety comparison details... Absolutely fascinating! You'd have to know what you're looking at with zero doubts...
We don't live in the part of the country where edible 'shroom hunting is very rewarding, but the descriptions of the effects on the human body by the lethal ones was enough to make this person avoid hunting any wild ones...
I don't have that good of luck...

The ones that bruise blue would be considered psychadelic, or "magic ones", not poisonous, but affective. I just stay away from the wild ones, you just never know what can happen unless you know their characteristics.
