On the plus side, ..... He survived, and will probably make a fortune on the talk show circuit over the next few weeks. 
As a matter of fact, the morning news here is annoncing his story will be on after the commercial break.
I agree, the lifeguards for the gene pool must have been on a smoke break.

Yeah, no kidding. The boy wanted to be a journalist ... what a way to get your foot in the door, eh ?
The kids a knucklehead for doing it ... and I doubt that he realizes that he not only put his life in danger but there were MANY OTHERS that were put into jeopardy to save his butt. The US soldiers should have finished the butt whuppin that the Iraqi taxi driver thought about givin him.
My kids are smart enough not to come home if they tried something THAT stupid.

what gets me is who paid for this trip??? He's what 15-16 does Mac's pay that well??? It's said his parents didn't know anything about it. Who is paying the credit card bill?? I smell publicity stunt here.

The kid had money saved up ... probably birthday money, allowance etc ... and used his own money to fund the trip. (I am fairly impressed with that aspect of it).
