Playing the coin toss game of a 2500 or 3500. While not presently needing the load capacity of the training wheel equipped version, I'm looking at what all I'll be getting into once I hang up this pickle suit. Price difference between the two isn't that great.
It will be a diesel.
6 speed.
Limited slip and still not sure of gearing.
4X4.
Towing package.
Interior not a big deal.
Towing will be from 4,000 to 15,000 lbs (12 to 20 ft tag & looking at GN later)

For the work you do, get the duals and put a flat bed on it. You'll be glad you did.

 

Can you get duals with 3.73:1 gears?
If I ditched my beloved '02 for a new one, it would be because I want more than a regular cab. I think this time I'd go for a 3500 dually, still go with a stick, and make sure the dial-a-drive 4x4 is NOT in there. Currently towing with 3.55 gears, the 3.73 gears would be an improvement. Personally, the 4.10:1 gears are a little much for me doing mostly light and infrequent heavy towing.

Go for it....QC Duelly with 3.73s would work. SLT package with a couple of added extras should do the trick. Don't need all the foo foo stuff, but some of it is nice to have. But then again, I'm a little biased.

If you can't find one you like on the lot, order it. That way you get exactly what you want, not want some flunkey thinks you should have.

I hear Tommygun up in St. Luis is good to work with and not too far from you.

To answer your question; with proper gearing and adequate weight distribution, it will haul all 252 cells. A minor problem would be that the bed/trailer would have to be ~125 ft long and 8 ft wide. The BIG problem would be mounting those 50 each 10,000 lb axles (1600 lug nuts to tighten). Might be interesting to turn
You know, this bunch is amazing. One guy tries to be serious and share with those less fortunate individuals, the vast wealth of information he has gathered over the years. Go with a 3500 SRW. Better load capacity then the 2500 without training wheels. I can't be happier with my trade up from my 2002 2500 to the 3500.

Do your homework first, go to edmunds.com to see what the MSRP, invoice and what folks in your area are paying for them. You can even price out the individual options. Fill out some info on a couple of the internet car buying sites. Someone from a local dealer will contact you within an hour. I got one guy to e-mail me copies of the invoices he was looking at. I used this info to beat the heck out of the local guy.....
