What chop saw to buy?

Hi guys, wondering what your oppinions are on what chop saw I should buy? I just want it for projects and light fab work around my home, garage and farm.

Right now I'm working on a project building hay feeders out of drill stem and sucker rod, so far I've made all the cuts with a 4.5" angle grinder, that gets pretty old pretty fast!

Obviously cheaper is better but I'm looking for the best bang for the buck if you understand.

So I'm wondering what your experineces have been with different brands and models.

Thinking about a Milwaukee hand-held bandsaw real soon, myself. In a bind, you might be surprised what a sawzall and cutting oil will do for you if you go slow and don't let the blade go dry. I'd hit the bit with your angle grinder first to get through the hardened surface, tha saw blade should do good after that. Not as dangerous or dirty as cutting woth the grinder.

I have a cordless Sawzall somewhere but that wouldn't be up to the task, I've probably allready made 25-30 cuts in 3" pipe and 1" solid rod with my angle grinder.

Also I'm sure I can get better fit up with a chop saw then I can free handing with a grinder. (although I have gotten pretty darn good with that little grinder )

I have the 14" dewalt and have worked it to death. So far it is a good saw for cheap. One day I want to get one of the liquid cooled saws but they are expensive.

Hmmm, I just was looking at a Rigid Online, I beleive it said it had a 3 year service warranty.

I'm trying to find a Canadian Retailer for Dewalt saws. I though Home Depot had them but I don't see them on the website.

I have a Rigid and a Delta 14", and the Rigid is better. Next time I will cough up the extra for the Dewalt, but so far so good.

Yes, if you're lookin' for a boat anchor!

I've had just about every metal working tool Dewalt makes and not one of them has stood up to daily use. I was on my 3rd chop saw within a year when I bought the hand-held bandsaw. I'm currently on my 6th 4" grinder this year and my second cordless 1/2" drill. Granted, they replace them for me, but still, what a PITA.

Saddest part is that no one really makes anything decent anymore. I don't abuse them, just use them the way they were meant to work.

We've got a Ryobi chop saw that's been around well over 20 years and it used to get used alot but I don't think it's been used in close to 3 years now. I got a Milwaukee hand held bandsaw and found that with some practice with it I could cut as square as the chop saw but faster without throwing sparks all over and blades are a whole bunch cheaper. Then I got really lucky and found a lightly used Ellis 1600 bandsaw for $800 and it does 95% of my cutting now.

I don't know if they make a chop saw or not but I've got a Metabo angle grinder after trying several other brands and if they make a chop saw that's what I'd be looking for. Metabo is a German brand and have one of the best reputations for angle grinders.

Hmmm, I have a few dewalt thingsand never had a problem. I love my 1/2" 110V hammer drill.

This is for home/farm use not daily use.

I'm thinking I'd maybe do 10 cutting wheels worth of work per year?
