To make a long story short, this column will allow the switch to operate, without a key.

We don't even have a key.

This truck sits for days in the "steal it if it ain't nailed down" mudlick town where we live and nobody has figured it out, yet.
I have a buddy that drives Fords, and it was pretty easy to fix the cylinder to turn with no key. I had a lot of friends that had 88-98 PSDs that started with no key. Never did it to mine...

I think I heard or read once that there is only X amount of key combinations possible,
so the factory keys them based on their end destination.

Not very likely that any 2 trucks in California will be able to be opened with the same key, or the western United States even.
But take a truck from California, and a truck from New York, and the odds are better that the same key will open both.

Of course, YMMV.

Same idea as when someone across the road installed new garage opener..... it was on the same code as mine and would open and shut the door at strange times.... took a few days to figure out what was going on,....

My 66' Chevelle that I had when I was 16 had such a worn out ignition, that you could start the car and take out the key while the car was still running. I did that a lot when it was cold out so I could lock my car and leave it run to warm up............actually it was a nice thing to have
