Well I need a tailgate

While I was at the track for the final race of the year my tailgate was stolen off the bak of my truck.

Does anybody know how much a new tailgate is for a 04 2500?

the one on my second gen. got destroyed, I was able to get a new one (same color and all) off ebay for 385. Also check your local junk yards.

I did ask the dealer what a new one would cost when i traded it in........quoted me almost 700

I've heard some say that they installed a worm style hose clamp on the "slip out first" end.
It won't stop the Pros, but it will keep honest folks honest by slowing them down a little.

I have the handle lock - - don't think it would help much if someone wanted it.

You should be able to just beat people for doing stuff like that. No questions asked...

Anyhow... I've got a handle lock on mine, dunno how much that would stop them if they really wanted it... I just hope I'd catch 'em in the act...

Man, that really stinks. Of all the things to steal ... they went after your tailgate.

I guess I will just keep the one I have with the dent in it ... maybe that is why they don't rip mine off ???

Hope you find another one or at least find the jerks that have your old one.

I once seen a tailgate lock that worked in conjunction with your door lock - lock the door and the tailgate is locked....like on an SUV...this would be a good solution. I just cant find the link. You could probably make one for yourself if you are handy.

I use the worm drive clamp. It is of course not the perfect anti-theft device, but it sure will slow them down. I positioned it so that a screwdriver can't be used until the clamp can be rotated slightly. Get the type of clamp that has a hex as well as the screwdriver 'head'. Then use an open end wrench to do the final tighening with the worm part of the clamp positioned as far down as possible.

Yeah that is all they wanted. I race motorcycles and the truck was parked next to my trailer in the paddock. It was there for a week along with about 150+ race bikes, parts, and other things worth stealing but all they grabbed was my tailgate.

I was just curios what the price of a new might be. I just moved to a new state and I have not had time to find a dealer yet. I was thinking of alternatives but not sure.

Me too. You can use a bolt and nut in the cable eye, but it still allows then to remove the gate. When they find that they can't get the cable off, they just drop the gate and run. You're looking at probably a $1000+ for a painted gate.
