D1.1 is a certification, a code welder.

You would be certified on 3/8 or 1inch (or both) in this cert.

D1.1 is the structural welding standard set forth by the American Welding Society. To weld a 3/8ths plate to the standards in D1.1, you would have to find out specifically what those standards ARE, including depth of weld penetration, width of weld bead, width of joint before welding, any backing plate under/behind the joint, (which I doubt but don't know), filler metal to use and which direction of travel it should be applied.

Also, which method of welding are they looking for? A lot of places are using FCAW, (flux cored wire), now as opposed to SMAW, (stick).

Good luck!

hmmmm,

I am guessing we have a welder in the supply closet if chaikwa knows that much about them. I thought janitors just mopped the floor.

I make coffee too.

And when I get REALLY, REALLY bored, I tend to weld things together that shouldn't be... like chairs to desks. Welding the toilet seats in the 'UP' position is always fun too. Especially right after chili day in the lunchroom!

That sounds like me, run out of projects just start welding stuff. I mostly do frames, swing arms and stuff on Quads. Most people think it's all TIG work but it's all with a Mig gun. Boy if I had a TIG bet I could make it look like it was one piece of metal. One day I'll have more money and buy a TIG, for now it all goes into the truck
