Water Well Pump

Looking for a little feedback from those with experience. This is my first house with my own well and am wondering how long I can expect the pump to last. It was installed in 2008 and I do not know what brand it is. It's just the wife and I so it is used less than if a family of four lived here and the previous owners were also just a husband and wife.

Thanks!

What type of pump is it, shallow well jet, submerged, etc?

I only have experiences with the deep well submerged pumps, but short of sand intrusion or a lightning strike, I have never had an issue with the physical pump.

I think the last time we had my dads pump out was sometime in the 80's, and my personal pump hasn't been pulled since we put it in in 2000.

To answer patdaly's question, its a submersible pump 270' down.

Thanks for the replies so far!

They're pretty reliable provided they are fused properly, ie the breaker is not over rated for the pump. Pump parameters and breaker recommendation should be in the control box.

BTW, if it trips a breaker, do not reset the breaker until the control box is checked out. Usually the fault is the starter or phasing capacitor, both in the control box. If you repeatedly reset the breaker into a faulty controller, you can wipe out the pump. Then it gets into bank loan territory. Experience tells me people tend to reset the breaker repeatedly hoping it'll fix itself.

The pump is a pretty reliable part of the system. I have been on a well for 30 years and have only had to replace pump once due to direct lightening strike. Now the expansion tank is a different story. Due to where you are at you probably have high calcium in your water due to the aquifer being limestone. i have gone thru 4 galvanized expansion tanks which corroded out over a few years use each. I finally popped for a glass lined bladder style expansion tank and it has lasted over 14 years without a hitch in operation.
