Snowing here too. Darn chainsaw works too good in the cold weather. If it bogged down, it would give me an excuse to put the remodelling off til spring and keep Karen off my back
Don

Re:Warm spell

Ohh...I understand now. I read your chainsaw thread also. My buddy has one of those mobile sawmills...you know, the gas powered horizontal bandsaw? I occasionally help him horse logs up on the bed. It's amazing how heavy an 2 foot diameter oak log can be. We drag em out to the the mill with a chain tied to the truck in 4 L, then use lumber jacks to roll it onto the bed. Do you air dry your lumber, or kiln dry it?

Re:Warm spell

A friend at work got me into this. He has a band saw too. I might lean toward one after awhile. I cut the pine siding early last summer and let it dry for a couple months (red pine up to 12" wide) and put it through a planer. I didn't worry about the beams, 4x7 scotch pine(ruff cut), they'll split some, but the framing will keep them from warping as they dry slow in the cold.

Thinking about turning the old goat barn into a kiln. I've got a lot of oak and aspen I can cut. I'd like to make some cabinets and other odds and ends for my cabin. I got into sawing last winter, before I baught the Dodge, and is the reason I bought it.

Bailey's is a place you can start looking, then go to the manufacturers site for more details.

Re:Warm spell

PW,
Look at the Woodmizer. My neighbor has one that will take up to 28" diameter and ~ 25ft long. He runs his a good 8 hrs a day, 5 days a week. He's had excellent service and the company has a good reputation. His is powered by a 4 cyl diesel. Gary has worked with a bunch of the loggers in the area and he has no problem with getting enough timber. If you want to call him, he's at;

Gary Halpain
Triple H Enterprise
13213 Avilla West
Alexander, AR 72002
501-794-1170
It's best to call him after 7pm central time.
He's been custom sawing for a number of years and knows his stuff. Tell him Bruce gave you his number.

Got another lead too, but it's book marked on the other computer, I'll hunt for it later. They dumped everything on this one.

My buddy's is the Woodmizer, awesome machine.
