Dont want to do anything illegal so would make sure its ok before I log on to an unsecured network.

Checking on it as I type...Thanks.
netstumbler is one of those programs I thought was USELESS when I was first told of it. sitting at my house playing with it thinking "wow, this was a waste of 3 minutes downloading and installing". after a couple phone calls while on the road wanting a file or aksing about an email, it become very handy. after you get it setup, fire it up and go for a cup of coffee. you would be surprised how many unsecured wireless networks there are. I have found them in some unexpected places where I knew exactly which house it was because it was the only place around.

While there is some question of the legality of using someone elses internet connection without permission, the latest court decisions have been that its up to the owner to properly secure their network. if they leave it unsecured, its open to any use.

Net stumbler can also be made to work with a GPS , and record the location of unsecured networks , so you can find one easily if you have been there before.

You can go into WalMart- go to the electronic/tv section. There are cards/info at the desk about Verizon. There are 2 different plans- 1 for $50/mo, and a 2nd, cheaper plan- I forgot exactly what it entailed, but you don't have to sign a 1-2 year 'lease'.
