Angry UPS Skewed Me!

Well, yesterday I ordered my Blue Chip VP44 right at 0830 when they walked in the door. Since I have a busy week I requested that it was sent next day air. I figured if I had it by 1030 this morning I could get it swapped out and put the core back on the truck today as well. Right about 1020 the brown truck cruises into our industrial complex. I'm watching him bounce from neighbor to neighbor, but he never comes near my building! I went to grab another cup of coffee and as I peek out the overhead door again I see him leaving the complex headed for the main road!

I called Blue Chip and spoke with Ben. He kindly tracked it for me on the net. The detail staus only showed that it was in Nashua, NH. There was no further information available. With that I asked for the tracking number and called UPS myself. I found out that it was left on a truck last night and never made it to the plane. Thanks UPS for a completely wasted day! Hardly worth the $60 I'll be creditied for them missing their commitment. Ok, I'm done now!

That sucks. I actually work at UPS in the plant and I do next day air. I see this every day. The driver forgets that they have the package in their truck and it usually too late by then. NDA has to be dropped off early by the driver if its going to make it to the airport. If they dont then it just gets unloaded in the normal sort and there is nothing anyone can do by then. Sometimes it just dumb human error.

Hah! I'd like to see them try to toss that 19lb "football" around the terminal.

Just a little update the VP is still sitting in Nashua, NH aboard the air trailer waiting to leave for the airport at 2000.

The one thing that frustrates me the most is that there is no status update on the web, the package still shows on time and scheduled for delivery today! I think someone is slacking on their computer work so they don't get a bad review. The worst part is that they didn't call Blue Chip or myself to advise that there was a problem. As soon as it missed the plane someone should have been notified. I worked for UPS as a jumper in college around the holiday season and that would have never gone over out of my terminal. Even if they were going to make it later in the day a simple call or e-mail is in order. This is by far the poorest service I have ever had by UPS. Okay I've done more than my fair share of ing today!

I have to run, the boss wants to go see a movie tonight. 40 Year old Virgin. Why on earth would anyone want to see that? When the VP didn't show up I at least thought that if that was the worst that happend today I would make it, that's the last time I think that before the day is over

depends on how much pull your company has.
Our warehouse manager shipped some equipment to me for a guarenteed Saturday deliver. I didn't arrive. He tracked the number and seen it was on the truck in the town I was in. He called UPS, conferenced me in, and chewed on them until the part arrived an hour later. The driver showed up and asked whoever called his boss must have been REALLY ticked.

Been there, Hosed over like that. They did that to me on my fender flares. I had to have them for a trip over a week away because i just put new/wider rims and tires on the truck and needed them covered before a 2500 mile round trip. I had them 3 day aired thinking that would still give me over 1/2 a weak to install them. Ordered them on a monday and should have been here buy thursday. Got home from work Thursday and found no flares. There was a message on the machine from the place I ordered them from claiming they had just got them back that day broke in 2 peices. Great I paid extra to have them delivered rite back where they started and now there was not enough time to have them reshipped so i was "scewed" as well. I did make sure that I got them painted for free though and reshipped so that they where here waiting when i got home from vacation.

Fronty,

If the package were here at our local terminal it wouldn't matter what kind of pull I have, but the package is still in NH 700 miles away! It is not uncommon for both UPS and FedEx drivers to overlook a package every once in a while. It is the human factor and I can accept that. Consider how many they see in a week, a month, or a quarter. Now if my package were in town and the driver simply overlooked it one of two things would have happened; 1) I place a call to customer service stating that the truck was already in our area and did not deliver, the CSM sends a message to the driver and he/she returns with it ASAP, or 2) The driver realizes that he/she forgot to deliver one and upon return to our area at the end of the day for pickups drops it off. No amount of chewing is going to get an airplane to make a special trip for a $60 NDA package. The UPS Air Hub is in Louisville, KY. All air freight from around the country goes there first, then it is sorted and sent back out.

When I worked at FedEx in college, there was a 2" rule: any package must be in your hands unless it's 2" from the conveyor belt. Meaning throwing packages is unacceptable. The only package I remember being held up or missed in 8 months of class-3 hub sort is a hazmat that I was handling started leaking fluid on the floor so we put it aside and called the phone number on the package. There were specific policies in place to make sure that there was at least 3 people that searched the entire ramp area for lost/misplaced/missing packages.

Then again, I had the same thing happen with UPS on NDA truck parts ordered from CA. The driver missed delivery, I tracked the package to the truck, showed up at the local ramp with tracking information but the driver was scheduled back after the ramp closed so they wouldn't let me have the package until later.
