This is turning my life upside right.........

Ok I've worked swing shift going on 17 yrs. My job, starting 1/5/09 (when I go back from holiday shut down) is/has eliminated 2nd shift. I now will have to get up close to the time I'm usually going to bed. This really sucks, I'm up now trying to get used to getting up early and going to work. I'm sitting on my rear typing this, at this time (at work) I'll be working on the manuf. line starting at 5 AM.

I know, I know be greatful you still have a job..............but this July the union contract is up...........my job could be gone anyway................At the place I work, no one lost their job do to union, we're garanteed 40 hr/wk......

Getting up is the hard part, well actually hearing my alarm clock go off is. This is my 2nd day for getting up this stupid early..........

At least it is more or less fixed...

I worked for years rotating every month. About the time your body got used to it, it was time to change.

Give it about 3 weeks, and I'll bet you will be naturally waking up just before the alarm is set to go off.

In the past, I've had several chances to go to 1st shift and I turned 'em down 'cuz I just hate getting up that early in the morning...........I'm a night owl not a darn rooster (HAHA).............I'm used to my schedule with what I had for almost 17 yrs. If I had what you guys have for whatever type of schedule since you started on the job, you went into it knowing that, mind set......it's your choice, my choice would be swing/graveyard shifts....like I was working.

It's a big change for me, that's all.........On the plus side, I don't a have to take vac. days to go racing at the local dragstrip........I can go on every Thurs. (test-n-tune night) if I wanted, weather permitting........One wk, take the car, the following wk, my truck or both..........Then cruise nights is another thing I can go to also...........

Then there's my wife, OH OH, more time that I'm home at the same time...........we've been married going on 20 yrs., so far (HAHA)......Don't get me wrong, she's put up with me and my addiction to fast/powerful toys all these yrs., she's a great woman.........

I know what you mean. I've worked rotating shift for almost 29 yrs. Back in Sept they pulled me off the schedule and put me on straight days for 2 mos training for the highest job in my dept. Always thought I would like it. NOT! By wk three, I was tired of getting up @ 4:45 am. I actually ask to go back to my regular shift for a wk. Have a friend that went to days permenant, and it took him about 2 mos to get used to it. He likes it now though. It will be an adjustment though.
