TSA Agent Pat Downs

Went to Hawaii for our vacation recently. My daughter was patted down by TSA, she is 16. Her jewelry set off metal detector so she was pulled aside for pat down. When returning from the Big Island we flew Hawaiian airlines, my wife was forced to the back of the line by TSA agent because she had a water bottle with a tablespoon of water still in it. They wouldn't let her drink the water or dump it on the ground. She already had removed her shoes and was taken outside the building by TSA agent to dump out the water bottle and then to the rear of the line again. I went through security without a problem even though I had my watch on, hat on and wearing my belt with large metal buckle. I couldn't leave my daughter alone since she was very upset seeing her mother taking away by TSA agent and in tears about what TSA agent had just done to us again. If I had made a big deal out of it we would have missed our flight. I fly twice a year and have noticed TSA becoming more aggressive toward the flying public lately. I stood there watching the TSA agents for 30 minutes. The passengers that I thought should be checked just walked by me one after another after another without so much as a bag check. Yet the 60 year old grandmother was patted down for no reason. I feel this had ruined our vacation since my daughter will remember the harassing search by TSA agent and not the fun we had in Hawaii.

Here a 6 year old girl gets tramatized by TSA agent. Your tax dollars at work and guess what TSA is fighting to become unionized. So the child molesters they hire will be almost impossible to fire them.

We will be flying to NY in September. The government is almost as bad as my employer. "Anything worth doing, is worth over-doing."

That's a little too much for the DTR.... sorry.

Funny usually I have trouble when I fly(in the past think right after 9-11). The last two time I have flown I have walked right through no questions asked. This includes the following airports, witchia, ohare, denver, vegas, tuscon, fargo.

What happened to your wife was just plain stupid and lacking anything that resembles common sense. And NO, I'm not for the TSA unionizing. BUT, what the little girl in the video went thru was far from 'traumatizing'. If a simple pat-down 'traumatizes' a kid, then they're destined to be afraid of their own shadow. I can see where they might be nervous or apprehensive the first time, but come on! This, unfortunately, is a part of life in these times, and if kids don't learn how to cope with everyday life occurrences, they're going to grow up to be a bunch of whining brats that think the world owes them a living and they're entitled to have everyone else take care of them. Don't we have enough of those types already?

Sorry to hear of the hassle your wife and daughter went through.
My wife, 72 yr old mother inlaw and my sister inlaw all got the pat down and secondary search in separate rooms and missed their flight last fall.
They filed a complaint and the reply they got was nothing. Not one word.

Now not to take away from the seriousness of the boundaries that we no longer have with this stuff...

I encouraged the folks to search me when they started a pat down on me awhile back. I asked; "Can you feel the nuts... [paused and then continued the sentence] on the bolts in my legg." The search stopped.

I was going to post this the other day but I was not sure about the reactions.

You teach your children that it is never alright for anyone to touch their body that in anyway it would make them feel uncomfortable

How could any parent stand there while they were doing this to your child?

And this is no way an isolated incident.

What is our country becoming when our government is allowed to touch and maul the private body of law abiding men women and children, in public no less.

This almost looks like the same search our prisoners get when entering Twin Towers except for the cavity search, Oh wait ..the Body Scanners.

Yes, the TSA goes too far, WAY too far in a lot of cases. The boy in leg braces is but one example. But the little girl throwing a fit in her mothers arms, (the reporters wife... think there's any 'sensationalization' going on there?), which was essentially precipitated by the screening of her teddy bear, is a case of a child not getting her way combined with parents who bring up their children in the atmosphere of 'my child can do no wrong'.

While it DOES need to be instilled into ALL children that NO ONE, stranger or not, should EVER touch them, there needs to be a distinction made that when mommy or daddy are standing right there, there may come times when a stranger, (doctor, nurse, EMT, Police Officer or TSA Agent), NEEDS to touch them. What if they were to become injured and a paramedic needed to perform a full body patient survey? Would they be throwing a fit? I've seen it happen first hand. Granted, this is a different situation, but it's still a stranger touching them and parents are right there with them.

I can see both sides of this situation and like I've already said, the TSA goes way too far in a lot of cases. But the first time some twit plants an explosive device on a child and detonates it, (or tries to), then everyone will be screaming that there needs to be more thorough screenings. And the kid with an explosive device IS going to happen. It's not 'if', it's 'when'. We've already seen so-called 'red-blooded American people' working for the Taliban. That's not going to go away and there's more of it than any of us realize.

how much would your day have been ruined if you plane had been hijacked. Also don't the rules state no containers over 3 ounces, seems pretty simple to me. If a bottle states it is more then 3 ounces don't bring it.

You can't stop a terrorist attack by searching for the explosives. You have to search for the terrorists. Something our government and TSA will not do. I for one do not want to be the next victim to terrorism but if that means losing my rights then I am against it. I would rather see the system Israel uses which is profiling but it is politically incorrect in this country. Patting down grandpa and the kids doesn't make me feel safer at the airport. It's impossible to find explosives, you need to find the terrorist.

just wait til it hits the fan. marshal law etc. will make these "pat downs" look like hide and seek on the playground.

I agree full heartedly.

I havn't flown since 1977 & have no intensions of doing so. My wife flies several times a year for her goverment job & has told me you wouldn't believe the lack of common sense with the TSA.
No place I need to go anymore that requires jumping through their hoops.

They should hire doctors. That way you can get a free physical at the same time.

chiropractors at an airport would be awesome!!!!

I really don't see any problem, they are more polite and efficient than some deputy sheriffs that have to do Court pat frisks and miss some real obvious things due to 'political correctness'.

common sense. I think that Pakistanis should have to remove the punjab or head gear. see them just wand it. wanding doesn't pick up drugs, explosives or carbon elements........this is just my opinion.

Yes, there are some TSA agents that are bad. Just like some cops are bad, some fireman, etc., etc.. BUT!! I think they do a pretty good job overall. I fly 90,000+ miles a year. I have never had an issue with TSA. Most of the problems I have seen in line at security are caused by the people in line. READ THE SIGNS. Empty your pockets and take off your shoes, watch, jewelry and remove your belt or buckle. Do not attempt to take bottles with fluid through the line. I have thrown away many drinks and bottles when I got in line. It amazes me the number of people who cannot follow simple instructions. I am sure that TSA could release some amazing videos of goofy stuff people do. Can they do better, sure, most of us can. Any time I have done something stupid like forget to take out my toothpaste or something equally dumb, they have always been polite and understanding.
I don't think I am lucky, I think it is more mindset and being prepared.

YES!! We should be profiling at airport security or any other for that matter. I'm sorry, if you are a 20 something middle eastern man, you should expect that you mgiht be checked more closely than a 90 year old grandmother. As stated the Israilies do it if you fly on El Al and they have about the best track record. One of the countries I fly out of does a hand wand and/or pat down every time. I don't care, its their job.
