trying for new lawn

Looking for advice.

Trying to do a new lawn. What I have now is the "rough pane" that the builder left. Can I just put down 3-4 inches of new top soil and go from there or do I/must I have to york rake it or even box rake it.

I am putting 3-4" of new soil to cover everything.

Thanks

Try Zoysa (sp?) grass.

Prepare the area by raking all of the rocks out and leveling the area, then Plant Zoysa (sp?) grass, Its real tuff stuff and use's about 1/4 of water than other grasses, plus you only have to mow about once a month!

There is a reason that that grass is so good. It's the most expensive you can buy, at least around this area. Last I checked it was almost twice as much as other grasses. But I agree, it uses less water and it sure does look good if it's taken care of correctly. IMO a great looking yard is just like a great looking wax job or paint job,----it's all in the prep work!!

Get a soil test done or do one yourself. Not sure about New York, but I sent a soil sample to Texas A&M and they sent the results back to me within a couple of weeks and all for around $10. The results will let you know what you need to apply to your soil or what it has in excess.
