Truck took a big hit

Man am I ... mad, SOme old fart ran a red light and T boned me at an intersection. I saw him just in time to gun it and have him hit the bed instead of the passenger doors where my wife was sitting. He spun us through the intersection and up over a curb. He just about tore the rear axle out from underneath the truck, tore the exhaust off,and damaged the cap. . His passenger went to the hospital but nothing happened to him. I stayed away from him till a little later. My wife thought I was gonna kill some one. Well neither of us got hurt more than a little soreness so I'm counting my blessings. I tend to get real hot very fast when I feel like I've been attacked and that is how I reacted. Now I've got a headache from the adrenaline wearing off.

Let me be the first to say it:
Trucks can be replaced.
Good to hear you and the wife are OK.

Imagine the same circumstance with you in an Econo-Coffin.
I'd rather be a Hammer than a Nail.

Sorry to hear about this...

With regard to "being attacked" well, it's what you call "random selection," or the guy couldn't have known who it was he hit. I would be upset that he ran the red. But keeping a cool head in a situation like this can only help you. your tuck will be taken care of, thank the Lord you and your wife were not hurt.

I've found taking myself a little less seriously in life helps immeasurably in the long run. Good luck with all this....

Thanks guys, I guess it is my fight or flight reaction, just so happens my reaction is fight. I know it wasn't intentional it's just how I react. I was hit on my motorcycle once and not hurt , If I had been smart I would have dumped the bike and cried like a baby, but I put down the kickstand got off and almost killed the guy who rearended me at the light. He got out of his truck and says" look what you did to my grill" and I said it ain't nothin' compared to what I am going to do to "your" grill (mouth) if you don't go away until the cops get here.

You got lucky, then...

you got smart.
good reaction to try to dodge the other guy. I hope the cops gave him a ticket, so you can not only get your insurance, but you can also sue him for negligence, and get a decision form the court for punitive damages, so you can make up the difference on what you lost and what you got for it from insurance. Get that police report. If he was impaired or if he is even slightly Non compis mentis, you have a hell of a case. Keeping your hands off him was the smart thing to do. Hope you took pictures.
I'm not a lawyer. I just slept in a Holiday Inn last night.

Hey Hondo, glad that you are ok. I have been in my share of wrecks, I know the emotional and physcial reactions that you go through. Good on you for not losing your mind, I've done both, and regreted losing my mind on a few of them. (the cops agreed that the guy just fell out of his car or something on the other ones... )

As for the sueing thing... If the guy just had a crap happened moment, then I would let the insurance replace my truck/pay my injury bills. If the guy was honestly jacked up, and endangered your personal safety by speeding or was a jerk, I'd try to make it so he'd never drive again.

I am so thankful for you that your wife is ok. God was with you today.

The most important thing is that you and the better half are ok.

Everything else can be fixed or replaced. I am about the same way with the temper, but most of the time, cooler heads prevail and it all works out.

Be SURE you're not hurt. I'm not "sue happy" but some injuries take time to show up and it will suck if you have to pay for the physical therapy.

I am definitely not the "sue" happy type. We are going to see how we feel today, maybe a little sore but not really hurt. He was an old guy driving his even older buddy from place to place. It was actually the passengers car that hit us. He was apologetic and forthright about it being his fault, no BS on his part. A day later I am asking God to forgive me for being so possesive of my material goods as I probably have placed too much value on my truck. The older guy was hurt and I pray that he is ok.

With that being said, I guess that I am just worried that no matter how well they fix it, it may never be "right" I just want the truck to be as properly functional with no hidden gremmlins as it was before. Now I'll have one of those trucks that when people see a Carfax on it they will walk away. Also I was halfway through my payments and would really hate to have to start over again trading it in. Plus I just had it to where I wanted it as far as goodies go, well maybe not all the way there but..

Thanks again guys

It is going to be quite awhile to get my truck back. They had to order a new set of springs and these may show up Monday or not for a week. They cannot tell 100% until they get the springs and do an alignment to tell if the frame or axle is bent at all, by eye it does not appear to be. (Funny sidenote is that the week befor an F-350 Powerchoke came in hit in the same place and they had to total the truck as the frame bent and wrinkled.)
So no work is even going to start until the springs come in.

On a positive note I am getting a Banks Monster 4" exhaust to replace the shredded OEM. I am paying the difference but it is not much and no labor cost to me as they have to replace it anyway. I also had them order a Buckstop Rear bumper, with me paying the difference. A good oppurtunity to get these things done with minimal outlay on my part.

Just hope that parts get in soon and that there are no hidden SNAFU's coming my way.

I MISS MY TRUCK!! This POS Ford Escape sucks. The rental company screwed up though and sent me out into the winter's night with shot wiper blades and no antifreeze in the washer fluid. Found out when I went to clean the windshield at 70 mph and the wipers just smeared road grime across the windshield making it impossible to see. My anger over this seems to have earned me a free upgrade, still waiting to see what it will be.

It took me way to long to get my truck back on the road after it was wrecked. Most of that was waiting a month for the insurance co to get things taken care of. It was wrecked 12/13/05 and I didn't get it back on the road till Feb06. I did the same thing you are doing upgrading where needed. Hopefully all works out well.

Well got the good news today, absolutely no frame or axle damage. They will start the body work tomorrow and I will hopefully have my baby back by next Friday. They even did an alignment for me while it was on the machine. They are also giving me a great deal on repainting the other side of the bed where I had an Oops!
