I have a chore truck, that is a 95 chevy 1500 4x4, 165k and a rebuilt auto. Seems to drive ok. When I put truck in drive or Reverse, it makes a horrible grating sound, a somewhat loud growling, but not all the time, just 1/2 the time. It was rebuilt about 10k mi ago by a friend(i do not doubt his ability) that worked for a national chain, he did a little after hours work for me, supposed to be HD parts. worked great up till now. seems low on power. any ideas what the sound is? torque converter, or pump?
I'll probably change fluid this weekend and see if anything is noticably wrong.
