Cool videos... I had never thought about train plowing..

How do they get one of those out of a big drift when they get stuck?

Cool! They need one of those rotary plows for that one section.

this is an interesting snow remover in Canada. it is a turbine blower that is made using a turbocharger.

it was designed by a company called Nye Thermodynamics.

a larger engine/locomotive on its own weighs about 400-440k pounds. trains are measured in tons. example: a long freight train might weigh 14,000 tons. they are very heavy. about all engines have somewhat of a plow made into the front end. they are thick and destroy whatever they hit.

Think about this, in the 1800's there were rotary plows in use in the mountains of Colorado. They had to clear many feet deep of snow at a time, and snow slides that contained very large rocks. Not only did they de-rail sometimes, but the rocks would damage the plows and would have to be repaired before they could continue, all with tools from 1880!!! There is a story about a series of storms near Leadville, CO in 1899, where plows were borrowed from all over to try and recover trains as well as plows that were stuck for 78 days in a row!!

The two lead locos appear to be EMD Tunnel Motors (SD-40) and the rear a GP40. Serious hp (over 9000hp) for pushing that plow.
