towing disaster

I teach driver education as a part time job, and have to share this one with you. I was heading down the highway with two students and this Escalade blew by us at about 80 towing an empty snowmobile trailer. It was bouncing and swaying, not doing real well. I stated something to the students that this is a good way to cause a wreck for other motorists. Less than 15 seconds later the trailer became unhitched, swerved into the median and became airborne, then began to tumble over and over6-8 times. Wow! What a great learning experience! The guy pulled over shortly, everyone was ok (but needing a new trailer)

I wish I would have had something cool like that happen when I was in the student driver car.

The only slightly exciting thing I had happen was when the kids I knew that already drove would come pass us up, blow the horn and wave, then proceed to cut us off.

God bless you Driver's Ed instructors.
I bet when the dust settled, the first words out of the Escalade driver's mouth was, "OK who stole my snowmobile, it was here a second ago." Nathan

That's what happens when people don't look in the mirror!

I seen that happen with a young kid coming off a steep hill and hit a bump at the bottom. He was towing a tandem horse trailer ( no horses) it came on hitched. He didn't even no it right away. I was going the other way & when I came Back by an hour later it was still off in the grass in the meddian. Three hours later it was gone. These are the kind of people that I have to share the road with on a daily bases while I'm hauling 11,600 gallons of gas.

chains, you ask? I was in too much disbelief while this was going down to notice, the trailer was cartwheeling. I know that my students had one really good lesson in towing, if they ever choose to. You know those times when someone is being a jerk on the road and you wonder where the cops are? Or at least some justice, I got to see it delivered. Glad everyone is ok though.

DPG,
I now teach for a private company in K'zoo area, state budgets cuts have all but eliminated driver ed. through the schools in this area. I teach full time in Gobles. Driver ed. is a great part time job, it's not as scary as some make it out to be.

Yet another good example to use safety chains. Glad nobody was hurt.

I was pulling a trailer of green sawn lumber down a two lane steep mountain road with my old S-10 when it started whipping back and forth. Let me tell you boys something............. I had to clean my shorts after I got it under control!
