Tom Daschle and US Foreign Policy
Tom Daschle and US Foreign Policy
After reading and hearing about Senator Daschle's comments about our administration's recent foreign policy decisions, I felt compelled to send this to his office:

Dear Senator Daschle,

I wanted to send you a quick note on what I think about your comments yesterday ref. the pending war with Iraq. Specifically, I would like to comment on your issues with our President, George Bush and his administration.

After reading the newspapers this morning and reading your comments on how you feel that President Bush has "failed miserably" at foreign policy with Iraq and the United Nations, I was quite disturbed. I wasn't disturbed by the fact that you have your opinion, and you also have the right to express it. I was troubled that you chose such a poor time to make this particular comment about our President.

I feel that in such a time, when our country is about to go to war, our government leaders should rally behind the President and our troops, and provide as much support as possible. Although I don't think our President has made all the right decisions, I do appreciate the position he is in, and I also understand that our administration is doing the best they can with the information available to them. Mistakes will be made with any administration, and pointing them out is a necessary task, at the appropriate time. However, as I stated just a moment ago, I do not believe that this is the time. Doing so only presents a more divided United States to the rest of the world. The key term here is "United". We must show the world that we are "United" in this endeavor, or we're asking for more widespread dissent against the United States among other nations of the world, which in my opinion is unjustified.

I also believe that it's the duty of the United States to relieve our world of dictators such as Saddam Hussein, especially since it seems that we're the only ones willing to do so. If left to run the country of Iraq, his people will never be free. They'll never be free to make their own decisions, they'll never be free to speak out without the threat of execution from the Iraqi administration and Republican Guards. Women and children will always know in the back of their minds that they may be raped or killed at any time. I find this very sad.

Not only has Mr. Hussein violated the provisions of UN Resolution 1441, but many other resolutions that have passed since 1991. It's time to hold Mr. Hussein to those resolutions. If the UN won't do it, then I feel it appropriate for the United States to take charge, as we usually do, and force Iraq to abide by the resolutions set out by the United Nations. The United Nations didn't help itself by allowing such obvious defiance by Iraq to continue for such a long period of time. Many will say that the United States does not consider the UN a legitimate body. I personally feel that Iraq has caused these issues with the UN, not the United States. If the UN had enforced its previous resolutions, I feel that we would not be in the situation we're currently facing.

I feel it's time to free that nation, and fight terrorism, as well as a dictator who knowingly harbors weapons of mass destruction. I'm more conviced now than I ever have been about that. Especially in light of recent news containing information about the possibility of Iraq using chemical weapons against our troops. France even stated today that they will support the war on Iraq if there is truth to this, and if they use those weapons on our troops, or the Iraqi people.

Thank you for your time Senator. I appreciate the work you do, and I can only hope that your stance will be one of support for our President, and more importantly, our troops who fight so hard to keep our country and our people free.

Regards,

Jack Thorpe
Raleigh, NC

Please, keep this thread clean and discuss the issues without resorting to insults. I know some support Daschle and some don't like him, but I would rather we discuss the real issues here if you feel compelled to do so.

Also, if you want to take a stand and write Senator Daschle, you may do so by Clicking here.

Very well done Jack.

I could not agree with you more.

I think that it would be in the best interest of any U.S. Govt official to try to rally behind the President right now. Not to try to devide the U.S..

As a Nation, we need to stand together at this time.

Rich

Re:Tom Daschle and US Foreign Policy
Thanks for the compliments guys, but if you truely have an opinion on this, I would recommend writing him a quick note to let him know how you feel. I don't feel it appropriate at this time for him and other Democrats to be bashing the administration, whether he agrees with the administration or not. He has a right to free speech just like anyone else, but I would think that high level members of our government would have the wisdom to know when speaking out is appropriate. Those comments only make us look divided and confused at a time where we need to show that we have focus and resolve.

Jack, I agree 100%. Thanks for writing this much needed letter. Many times I read what Daschle and others similar to him have said and wonder which side they are on. You ALL do need to rally behind your president now, whether you believe in him or not. Months ago I already sent in my offer to volunteer for duty as required even tho I am not an American as I support what Pres. Bush is doing. ( I do have a US SIN number)

I sent my note also,,,,It just kills me that back after Sept 11th Bush embraced this a-hole as a brother,to say we now need to be one, strong unified country. This piece of dung is so left wing liberal that Bush will always be wrong in his eyes.

I'm going to buy more duct tape for my head right now..

Well done, Jack. I think we need to clean out some senators and congressman come next election. It does not matter who is in as president, the opposite "clan" finds fault with whatever he does. Why can't we find some more "Americans" to serve as our elected officials. We have a few - - they just need some help. So many of our leaders are out for their agenda and their back pocket instead of what is best for our country. They also will say anything to get another vote to stay in their plush job. Disgusting.
I stand amazed that so many people cannot see beyond the simplistics of these people's words and read the real person.

CitizenBob

Re:Tom Daschle and US Foreign Policy
I think there is a word for Daschle and those that would follow him - - - - -TRAITOR!

The liberal left should be ashamed of themselves. Just reinforces what I think we all feel about liberal politicians. Vote all of them out of office.
Re:Tom Daschle and US Foreign Policy
Jack, I also agree with your letter to the senator. I have emailed him earlier on other disgraceful comments. I see him as a political senator for his party. Everything else comes in second. The matter you wrote to him about proves my point. He knew exactly what he was saying and why. It served his political purpose and was what counted. His follow-up statement was after the fact and when it better served him to try some flag waving.

Personally, I think the Democratic Party should change their name to "The American French Party". Too many in the party sound like Daschle and the french.

Ok Jack, I'll cool it. Just that its hard staying civil when talking about Puff Dashle.
