Tire/Wheels size

On a stock (no lift) 98 2500 Quad Cab 4x4, what is max tire size it can take. Also, does anyone know the max tire size the std 6.5x16 wheels can take?

Re:Tire/Wheels size

I would put a 305/70/16 on there. That basicly equals a 33x12.50R16.

Re:Tire/Wheels size

Alot of places won't mount the 305's (~12" wide) on the 6.5" wide rims. If you want approx the same height you can run 255/85's which are only 10mm (~0.4&quot wider than 245's AND can be safely mounted on the 6.5" rims. Only drawback to the 255's is their 'taller' sidewall relative to width. Has about the same sidewall height at ~8.5" as the 305's but on a narrower tire. Not an issue as far as I'm concerned but you & others may feel differently. All widths are nominal & cross-sectional NOT actual contact patch which is narrower.

Good luck

Re:Tire/Wheels size

Am still debating whether to go to a new wheel so as to get a larger tire, or stay with stock wheel and go with smaller tire. I was told you can mount 285x75 on stock wheel??? Will the 305's clear ok with stock suspension?

Someone mentioned a 6.5"--that's the earlier truck. Later trucks have 7" wide wheels. Sorry, but I'm not sure where the split is year-wise. You might be able to find that info on http://www.dodgeram.org. He's got quite a bit of stuff on there. As far as recommended rim widths for various tires, the best source is the tire manufacturer. I know Dunlop posts that on their website. I had a 98 1500 with the 7" rims on it that had 285/75-16s on it when I bought it, so it should work ok.
