What is the mass opinion here on this gun. I have talked with several and read all the reviews and have never heard anyone say anything bad about it.

Springfield makes a quality gun. I own a springfield myself and will own another in the future. My personal opinion I don't like that style of gun, not because it isn't quality but I don't like double action only guns, to long of a trigger pull. I am a 1911 fan..
I am a huge fan of the 1911 also. I have a mil spec springfield but I kept hearing everyone ranting about this gun so I looked into it. I have a co-worker that is a 1911 nut. He has Paras, SA, SW, and original colts. He was at the range last week and the guy next to him let him shoot a XD. He said it was awsome. Where he was shooting 2" groups with his 1911's he was able to eat the center out of the target with the XD. He couldnt believe it. He ordered one that day. I know you dont know this guy but that says a lot for this gun coming from him.
Probably OK for throwing 14 hardball rounds at a burglar at 5 feet but beyond that the double action would be hard to aim accurately. I much prefer a DA with a de-cocker so I can carry one in the pipe.

I also have a XD subcompact 9. I love that little guy. I have big hands so my pinky hangs off of the bottom. I have Pierce grip extensions on my stock mags, took care of that. They are awesome. I also have the high capacity mags that hold 16 rounds. 16 in the clip and 1 in the hole that's alot of funk in that little gun!! All loaded up with Corbon 115g +p Hollows. The range I go to has the targets out to 50ft(they won't let you move them closer) I can group them all in the 9 ring. I think that's pretty good with a little 3 incher. I can't wait to see what I do with a full size 45. If you are on the fence get one! You'll like it. Very reliable! I've had zero problems with mine. And the little sub it easily concealable if you're legal
I went and checked one out today. Didnt shoot but just looked it over. The one I looked at was the 5" 9mm. I was very impressed with it. Its like night and day picking that up and pointing vs picking the mil spec 1911 up and pointing. I think I will try one out. My 1911 guy said even with the SA trigger it had no effect on it at 50' for him at least. He said it shoots as good if not better than his best 1911. To each his own I guess. This will be a CC gun for me and I think it would be a great choice.
I am holding out for the 45ACP.

I shoot Glocks, and conceal carry a custom Tactical 35 in .40 cal, in a leather AE Nelson Model 85 back paddle holster. I have always carry the large frame pistols because my hands are huge and I need all the the grip length I can get. During my last trip to the range the owner brought out a Springfield XD 45 5" Tactical for me to shoot, and I was very impressed. It fit, was smooth and very well balanced even before tuning and weighting, the trigger pull is too stiff for product liability purposes and is easily corrected with some diamond paste, the cycle time is a bit longer than I am used to, but it was also a brand new weapon, and that trigger safety system they have seems to be adequate for me to carry with one in the chamber.
No one that I know has any time on one, so I have no idea if they will still shoot straight after a few cases of ammo go down the barrel. But, out of the box they do better than a lot of tuned and custom 1911's and very close to my custom Glock. I thought it was impressive for an out of the box production piece..
Needless to say, one is now on my list for Christmas!

We've been selling buckets of them since Springfield started importing them...Back a few years ago, Intrac imported them from Croatia as the HS2000 and although it was an accurate, reliable pistol, we couldn't give them away...Now, with the Springfield moniker, we can't keep them in stock...Same exact gun with the crossed cannons cartouche and a price tag that doubled...We manage to stock a couple of dozen at all times but there's always some barrel length or caliber on backorder...

My son has one and loves it. Personally, I am an old fashioned 1911 fan myself.

After hearing my die hard 1911 buddies opinion and him ordering one as soon as he shot it I guess I will scrounge up some coin and buy one. The 45ACP with polymere gun holster, two clip holster, magazine loader, cable lock, two magazines, and padded case out the door is $515. Cant go wrong on the price at least
I had an XD 40 4" version about 2 years ago. Put about 1200 rds through it before selling it. Im a 1911 and Sig guy, but it is a great little gun. My wife wants my old one back, she shot better with it than I did.
